Jack Draper vomits during a dramatic US Open semifinal loss, allowing Jannik Sinner to advance.
The sinner awaits the outcome of the other semifinal to determine his opponent in the final.
On Friday, it seemed like the atmosphere within Arthur Ashe Stadium affected Jack Draper.
During the semifinal match between British tennis player and Italian Jannik Sinner at the U.S. Open, the player vomited several times.
"Draper, via Tennis.com, described his on-court illness as the "worst feeling ever." He explained that it made it impossible for him to move around the court."
During the match, Sinner sustained an injury to his wrist while Draper experienced medical attention for vomiting.
As the world's top-ranked tennis player, the 23-year-old Sinner entered the final Grand Slam tournament of the year.
In March, Sinner failed two drug tests, but was later exonerated in a doping case just before the U.S. Open began in New York.
Draper was ultimately defeated by the sinner, who reached his first title match at Flushing Meadows and his second Grand Slam tournament title match this year. He discussed the physical nature of the match.
"The match was highly physical, as seen," stated Sinner, who is right-handed but utilizes both fists for his backhands and continued to flex his left wrist after it sustained an injury. "I simply attempted to remain mentally focused."
During a changeover, while both competitors were being observed, a vacuum was used to clean up the green ground behind the baseline where the 25th-seeded Draper, a 22-year-old from Britain, had vomited, finishing the cleaning job he attempted to do by wiping the court with a towel.
The memory of Pete Sampras losing his lunch during a win over Alex Corretja in the 1996 U.S. Open was evoked on Friday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where the temperature was in the high 70s and the humidity was above 60%.
In January, the Australian Open was won by a sinner, who will now compete for his second major championship on Sunday against either Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe, who faced off in an All-American semifinal on Friday night.
In the women's final on Saturday, Jessica Pegula of the United States will face off against Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
