If Aaron Rodgers lands the Jets coaching job, Rex Ryan promises to end the 'country club' atmosphere.
Another major concern for the organization during the offseason is the future of Rodgers with the team.
Rex Ryan, the former New York Jets head coach, is campaigning for his old job and has disclosed one significant alteration that would occur if he were to secure the position.
On Tuesday, Ryan, who led the Jets to consecutive AFC championship game appearances in 2009 and 2010, will interview for the job with owner Woody Johnson in Florida.
During an interview with ESPN radio on Monday, he seemed confident that he would excel in the job.
"I believe I'll receive it because I'm the ideal candidate. There's no doubt about it," he stated through ESPN. "To succeed, you must connect with your football team and your fan base. The way they play is the most crucial aspect. It's not just about the strategies and tactics."
Ryan displayed confidence and also made a pitch that targeted quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers' absence from mandatory minicamp, despite being the team's quarterback and recovering from an injury, is an unacceptable message to send to the team, according to Ryan.
"If he returns, things will change. If he's back, it won't be the country club, show up whenever you want to show up. That won't happen. I'll just leave it at that."
On Sunday, after the Jets' season-ending victory over the Miami Dolphins, Rodgers expressed some uncertainty about his future with the team.
"Regardless of whether I am back or if it's the guys they've got or new guys, the focus should always be on how I, as the player, can contribute to the solution rather than being part of the problem," Rodgers stated. "I have a deep affection for this organization and I hope it turns around. If I am part of it, I will do everything in my power to help it succeed."
