Government officials are criticized by Nick Mangold for their inability to provide answers regarding the drone sightings in New Jersey.
Gov Phil Murphy has 'failed' to address drone issue, says Mangold.
Nick Mangold, a legendary player for the New York Jets, expressed his frustration with the lack of information regarding the viral drone sightings in New Jersey through social media criticism of officials.
Thus far, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has not taken any action regarding drones. Mangold posted on X on Thursday that all he has heard are empty promises.
In a press briefing on Thursday, John Kirby, the White House national security communications adviser, stated that there was no evidence to suggest that the reported drone sightings posed a national security or public safety threat, or had a foreign connection.
"The reported sightings of aircraft in the sky are likely manned aircraft being operated legally. The United States Coast Guard is assisting New Jersey and has confirmed that there is no evidence of foreign involvement from coastal vessels. Additionally, there have been no confirmed sightings of drones in restricted airspace."
Kirby's response did not satisfy Mangold, who expressed his dissatisfaction on social media.
Seeing these with my own eyes and being lied to directly makes me question what else they lie about with ease. How can we let this happen? Mangold posted on X.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, a former teammate of Mangold and a current "Thursday Night Football" analyst, inquired about an update in response to one of Mangold's posts.
Nick, it's been a while since we last spoke. I'm curious, what's the controversy surrounding the drones? Have they been there for a while? Do we have any idea what they're used for?
""We are being told by our government that we aren't actually seeing anything, but those of us who have lived here long enough know of normal air traffic and this isn't normal. After experiencing one fly directly over my head, I am now on the case. I do not like being lied to. #MangoldvsDrones," Mangold responded in part."
Since mid-November, Garden State residents have been alarmed by the recorded sightings of drones.
Throughout his 11-year career, Mangold excelled as a center for the Jets, earning him seven Pro Bowl selections and cementing his status as one of the greatest players in the team's history.
In 2022, Mangold was inducted into the Jets ring of honor. Currently, he serves as the offensive line coach for Delbarton High School in Morristown, New Jersey.
