Golf legend Tiger Woods pays tribute to his late friend and golf writer Steve DiMeglio in a social media post, expressing his grief over the loss of "part of our family."
At age 63, DiMeglio succumbed to his battle with cancer.
PGA Tour writer Steve DiMeglio, who lost his battle with cancer at age 63, was mourned by golf legend Tiger Woods and others.
Woods posted Wednesday to X, offering his condolences.
Unfortunately, the golf world lost a cherished golf writer, Steve DiMeglio, today. Despite our close bond and frequent communication, Steve's health took a turn, and we lost him. I am deeply saddened by this loss, but I am grateful for the time we spent together and the memories we created.
"Golf has lost a dear friend on this sorrowful day."
In 2022, DiMeglio was diagnosed with Stage 4 rectal cancer after experiencing pain in his right side following The Open Championship.
He was forced to leave the sport he had been covering due to multiple chemotherapy treatments. The cancer had spread to his liver, colon, and stomach by the time it was discovered.
Last month, many in the golf world were taken aback to see DiMeglio participating in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
At the tournament, DiMeglio's presence was captured on camera when Woods saw him, resulting in a huge smile on Woods' face.
"Before giving him a hug, DiMeglio was asked by Woods, "Hey big boy, how are you doing?""
"I came all the way down here to open the door for you, big man," DiMeglio replied.
DiMeglio, a USA Today golf reporter, remained engaged with fans and followers while battling his illness.
Multiple reports indicate that DiMeglio passed away peacefully in his Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, residence.
