Georgia misses out on College Football Playoff bracket after a tumultuous week.
Since November 7, 2020, Georgia had not lost to any team other than Alabama.
On Saturday, college football fields were stormed, resulting in a shakeup of the rankings.
This week, three of the top four seeds from last week's rankings, including the No. 1 seed, retain their automatic bids. However, one team has fallen from the No. 2 seed to just outside the bracket.
The top four seeds from the top-ranked conferences will receive a bye, while five automatic bids will be awarded to the conference winners.
The bracket system may not align a team's playoff seeding with its committee ranking.
Here is the current playoff seeding:
Automatic bids
1. Oregon — Big Ten leader (10-0, 6-0)
2. Texas — SEC leader (8-1, 4-1); ranked third
The Big 12 leader BYU is undefeated with a record of 9-0 and is ranked sixth.
4. Miami — ACC leader (9-1, 5-1); ranked ninth
At-large bids
5. Ohio State (8-1, 5-1); ranked second
6. Penn State (8-1, 5-1); ranked fourth
7. Indiana (10-0, 7-0); ranked fifth
8. Tennessee (8-1, 5-1); ranked seventh
9. Notre Dame (8-1); ranked eighth
10. Alabama (7-2, 4-2)
11. Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2)
The final automatic bid:
Boise State, the leader of the Mountain West Conference, has a record of 8 wins and 1 loss, and is currently ranked 13th.
Although Georgia ranks 12th in the country, it is the first team out due to Boise State's automatic bid as a conference leader, with SMU following closely behind.
Ole Miss rose from No. 16 to No. 11 in the country after defeating the Bulldogs last week, while Georgia fell from No. 3 to No. 4.
Since November 7, 2020, Georgia had not lost to a team other than Alabama.
If LSU had won, it would have received a playoff seed, but it was defeated by Alabama, 42-13, with Jalen Milroe scoring four touchdowns and running for nearly 200 yards.
Despite moving up to No. 17 in the College Football Playoff rankings, Colorado remains in control of its own destiny. The Buffaloes are currently ranked second in the Big 12 and have an easy schedule to finish the season, making them a strong contender for the Big 12 title game.
