George Karl, an NBA legend, believes the league should take a cue from Trump's election victory.
X was the topic of Karl's opinion.
George Karl, a legendary NBA head coach, urged the league to follow the example set by the recent election outcome, where President-elect Donald Trump emerged victorious over Vice President Kamala Harris.
On Monday, Karl wrote that as American voters sought change in leadership in the White House and Congress, the NBA should consider the changes it needs to make to its on-court product.
Despite my feelings about Trump, the recent election was a message of change, and the NBA, a league I care deeply about and have contributed to, should recognize this need for change as well.
"NBA fans claim daily that the games are unwatchable. The entertainment has surpassed the sport. The NBA should take heed and act accordingly."
The league has faced Karl's complaint about injury management, players resting during back-to-backs or deciding to sit out for the stretch run of the regular season for several years. This is in contrast to what fans saw in the 1980s and 1990s.
The NBA has introduced guidelines for awarding season-ending accolades in an effort to prevent top players from sitting out.
To be eligible for supermax contracts, a player must participate in at least 65 games and be considered for the MVP and All-NBA teams.
This decade, the average number of missed games per season by star players has increased to 23.9 games, compared to 10.4 games in the 1980s and 10.6 games in the 1990s, as reported by ESPN in January.
According to a report from the NBA, managing injuries does not necessarily decrease the likelihood of long-term injuries.
As superstar power declines during regular-season games, the league and its players must find a solution to attract attention, with players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry approaching the end of their historic careers.
