Firefighters battling LA wildfires receive TVs from FOX Sports.
During their breaks, NFL playoff games can be watched by the firefighters.
During their shift breaks while fighting the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, first responders were given televisions by FOX Sports to watch the NFL playoffs.
Jay Glazer, FOX Sports' NFL reporter, explained the origin of the partnership at the Palisades Incident Command Post in Malibu before the Washington Commanders-Detroit Lions playoff game on FOX.
My wife and I reside about 200 yards away. We were evacuated. However, this week, like many others from California, we were returning, bringing protein bars and whatever we could do to lift spirits. Two nights ago, some firemen said, "What we really want is to watch football." I replied, "I know someone who could make that happen."
I informed our FOX Sports CEO, Eric Shanks, about my idea, and he immediately approved it. We completed the project within a day, which involved installing TVs in an area where employees return to their shifts. This area provides a place for them to relax, eat, and watch TV after working long 24-hour shifts.
"This weekend, we're showcasing all the games on FOX as a way of expressing gratitude to those who risked their own safety to protect ours."
During the NFL pregame show on FOX Sports, it was revealed that Dan Quinn, head coach of the Commanders, and Dan Campbell, head coach of the Lions, had a video call with firefighters before their playoff game, which was broadcast on FOX.
Glazer said the coaches were "enamored with our heroes."
"To give them some normalcy and boost their morale, we need to jump in and show them that we care, he said. He shared stories from the soldiers who had been on duty for 48 hours straight and had witnessed difficult things. Anything we could do to show our appreciation and support would be greatly appreciated, he added."
Over two dozen individuals have perished and thousands of buildings have been destroyed due to the ongoing fires in the area.
