Emil Heineman, a rookie with the Canadiens, was hit by a car while walking in Utah and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks due to injury.
On Monday in Salt Lake City, Utah, a car struck Montreal Canadiens rookie Emil Heineman while he was strolling downtown.
An upper-body injury sustained from the incident is expected to keep Heineman, 23, out of action for three to four weeks.
On Tuesday, the Canadiens defeated the Utah Hockey Club 5-3 in a game played in town.
On Monday at 3 p.m., Salt Lake City police received a 911 call about an incident involving a pedestrian. Despite dispatching officers to the scene and searching the area, they were unable to locate either the pedestrian or the passerby who reported the incident.
Officers received information from a nearby business later in the evening that may be linked to the crash.
The police stated that the Swedish hockey player, Heineman, did not exhibit any severe injuries after being discovered as the pedestrian and was being treated by team doctors.
It was not immediately clear what Heineman’s injury was.
This season, Heineman has become a regular with the Canadiens, playing 41 games after appearing in four games last season.
This season, Heineman ranks third among rookies in both goals scored (10) and assists (7).
In 2020, the left-winger was a second-round pick by the Florida Panthers and was later traded to the Calgary Flames in 2021 before being moved to Montreal in '22.
The Canadiens will face the Dallas Stars on the road in their next game on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
