Elon Musk's father reveals that the entrepreneur is considering purchasing a major European soccer team.
The ownership group of the club has stated that the rumors are "unfounded."
Elon Musk, who has already left his mark on the political landscape, may now be considering a foray into the sports world.
The billionaire, known for his support of Trump, is reportedly considering purchasing Liverpool, a renowned English soccer club with a storied history of success.
Liverpool has won a total of 13 international titles, including six European Cups, three UEFA Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup, all of which are English records.
According to Forbes, Liverpool was valued at $5.37 billion in May 2024, ranking it as the fourth most valuable football team globally.
Errol Musk, Musks' father, recently confirmed his son's interest in purchasing in an interview with Times Radio.
"Yes, he would like to buy it, but that doesn't mean he's actually going to," Errol Musk said. "Obviously, anyone would want to, including me."
He added, "I can't provide a comment on that; it may lead to an increase in price."
According to The Associated Press, a spokesperson for Fenway Sports Group stated that the rumors were "unfounded."
In September 2023, the group disposed of a minority stake to U.S. investment firm Dynasty Equity.
Mike Gordon, president of Fenway Sports Group, stated that their long-term commitment to Liverpool is unwavering. He emphasized that they have always been open to exploring investment opportunities that would help secure the club's financial stability and growth.
Errol Musk stated that they have family ties in Liverpool and were fortunate to know many of the Beatles because they grew up with them, including his own family.
Since the center-left Labour Party was elected in July, Elon has become involved in British politics and has used his social network, X, to advocate for a new election.
