During the raging wildfires in the Los Angeles area, LeBron James and his family were forced to evacuate their home.
Brentwood, California is where James resides.
The ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles compelled LeBron James and his family to vacate their residence.
James, a four-time NBA champion, admitted to reporters that he is staying in a hotel that makes him feel "uneasy." Additionally, he shared with reporters that he has been grappling with emotions after learning that some of his friends have lost their homes.
During a news conference, James stated that there were many emotions. He shared that he had friends who had lost their homes in the Palisades and that his heart went out to all the families affected by the fire, not just in the Palisades, but throughout LA County and the surrounding areas. James emphasized the emotional impact of the fire.
"I've been off personally since Thursday night, and my family has been evacuated. We've been staying in a hotel since then. We're figuring it out, but staying strong for one another. Of course, that's the most important thing."
After the Lakers' 117-108 victory over the Miami Heat on Wednesday, James, 40, had 22 points and nine assists.
The James family has evacuated due to fires before, specifically in 2019 when brush fires occurred near the Getty Center in Brentwood, where James resides.
James shared updates on his social media feed, discussing the differences between his family's experiences more than five years ago and what they are currently facing.
James stated, "We had that experience and were able to rely on it a bit." He explained, "The distinction between '19 and now is that in '19, it was in the middle of the night, so we had to act quickly. We had more time before we had to evacuate, so we were able to gather some items that were meaningful to us."
"Our home has not been touched since we left, but it remains standing and we are grateful for it. We hope it continues to stand, and we are patiently waiting for the possibility to return and be reunited under our home."
As a pro athlete, James understands the responsibility of giving fans and the community a brief respite from the challenges they are facing in the region.
James emphasized the importance of understanding the realities of life while focusing on our job as Lakers players. He hoped that our performance on the court, such as the one we gave tonight, would inspire hope and excitement among the fans and give them a sense of pride in the Lakers franchise.
"Sports provide a temporary escape from daily struggles, and as a significant part of the LA community, the Lakers can offer this respite to many families."
The Lakers' home games on Jan. 9 and Jan. 11 were postponed by the NBA due to wildfires. The team was idle on Thursday but will host the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.
