The latest evacuation order was issued due to a flareup of the wildfire on the city's west side, causing Santa Anita to cancel its scheduled horse racing event this weekend.
The track in Arcadia, situated near the Eaton Fire that devastated Altadena, announced on Friday that it would proceed with racing on Saturday, provided that air quality conditions permitted.
Officials announced Saturday that the Palisades Fire had led to the cancellation of racing.
Despite concerns about the impact of fires in Los Angeles County, air quality standards at the track remain within limits set by the California Horse Racing Board and the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority, according to track officials.
As of Saturday morning, the Palisades Fire was 11% contained, while the Eaton Fire was 15% contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
In Southern California, a 90-year-old track is being utilized to aid in relief efforts.
The charity drop-off at the Rose Bowl was moved to Santa Anita's south parking lot on Friday. Southern California Edison is using the entire north parking lot to restore power to affected areas. The track is collaborating with other organizations seeking space.
The track has its own security personnel and does not rely on local first responders for routine events.
The postponed races are expected to have new dates announced at a later time.
The Palisades fire has affected several areas in the sports world, including Malibu.
The men's and women's basketball doubleheader at Pepperdine University, located on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, was postponed on Saturday due to the Palisades Fire and unfavorable travel conditions in Los Angeles.
Despite the fire, Pepperdine's Malibu campus is safe and free of immediate threats. However, access to the campus is limited to the north side, and the Pacific Coast Highway south of campus is closed.
The West Coast Conference is in communication with Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount about rescheduling. Meanwhile, the fourth-ranked USC women's basketball team is set to play a Big Ten Conference game against Penn State on Sunday night. Officials are keeping a close eye on the weather conditions, a spokesperson stated.
