Despite an abysmal season, the Giants kept its coach and general manager, and legend Victor Cruz discusses the team's state.
The Giants finished with a record of 3-14 and secured the fourth pick in the draft.
Over a month ago, the New York Giants were in command of the NFL Draft and held onto the top pick. However, they scored 45 points in their most recent game, which took place less than three weeks ago, and emerged victorious.
Experts predict that only two quarterbacks are deserving of early selection in the draft, with the Giants now positioned to pick third.
The Titans and Browns, the two teams in front of the Giants, are likely to be active in the quarterback market.
Despite having the fourth-lowest winning percentage in franchise history with a .176 record and a 3-14 record, Giants owner John Mara decided to keep both head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.
If Daboll were fired, the Giants would have had their fifth head coach in 10 seasons, excluding interims. This is not an ideal situation, especially considering Coughlin coached for 12 seasons.
Although Giants fans may not approve, Victor Cruz comprehends the reasoning behind it.
In a recent interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, Cruz stated that at some point, it is necessary to provide continuity by not constantly firing coaches. Instead, it is important to give some coaches time to determine if they are the right fit.
Daboll and Schoen's survival depends on the Giants' ability to contend next year, as Cruz stated that the veterans, particularly those who love Daboll, influenced Mara's decision.
Cruz stated that the Giants must be competitive next year in order for the fans to have a better taste in their mouths, even if they don't win 13 games. He also admitted that the tandem could survive if the Giants "suck" again.
"I believe it depends on the level of suck we are at. How much do we suck? Are we 3-14 or 9-8? 8-9? Are we in the middle tier, and if so, are we a few pieces away?" he stated.
"If we are a three-win team next year, you must blow it up because it's evident that it's not working. However, if we are a middle-tier team with a 9-8 or 8-9 record, in contention for a wild-card spot, then I have a different perspective. In that case, I am willing to commit to the team and work together to overcome the final hurdle."
The G-Men are unlikely to participate in a Super Bowl for some time, so the players may throw parties for the big game this year. Cruz, however, is partnering with Finish Ultimate dishwasher detergent before heading to New Orleans next month. The brand is offering a $10,000 prize for fans to host their dream Super Bowl party.
"Since I've retired and started relaxing at home, I find it helpful to get rid of tough stains while cooking different types of food. The dishes in my kitchen often have stains that are difficult to remove," said Cruz.
"Using Finish Ultimate is the best way to remove tough stains, and I wouldn't trust any other brand."
Despite the possibility of the Titans and Browns letting Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders fall to the Giants, Cruz would decline and seek a more familiar name in the draft.
"We should acquire a veteran player in free agency, establish a competitive team for the next year, and then focus on Arch Manning in the following year," Cruz stated. "We have accumulated a team through the draft and free agency. We need to utilize the next year to develop our roster and create depth in all positions. After that, we can acquire a quarterback in free agency and evaluate the situation."
So, who does Cruz want at No. 3?
Travis Hunter is a game changer. Putting him with Malik Nabers on defense and giving him some plays is a no-brainer. He's the kind of player that you can't plan for, and that's what makes him so valuable. Imagine a team having to plan for a player on defense, and then being surprised to find out he's also playing 30 snaps on offense. He's a player who can really make a difference for us.
He's a great personality and a great kid. He's going to have a ton of fun out there, and he and Malik Nabers together will be crushing it in New York City, both on and off the field.
"By working together, the two individuals could benefit from each other's strengths and weaknesses, leading to mutual growth and success. They could serve as a source of motivation and support for one another, ultimately strengthening their bond and enabling them to overcome any challenges that arise. Additionally, their combined efforts could contribute to the overall success of the team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment."
