Conor McGregor is being sued for alleged sexual assault that occurred during the 2023 NBA Finals game.
No criminal charges were filed against McGregor.
On Tuesday, a lawsuit was filed against UFC star Conor McGregor for sexual assault allegations related to a bathroom incident at the Kaseya Center during a Miami Heat NBA Finals game in 2023.
A 49-year-old senior vice president at a Wall Street financial firm claimed that McGregor assaulted her in the bathroom in Miami during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on June 9, 2023.
James Dunn, her lawyer, filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida.
"Despite her fear of the impact on her job on Wall Street, Dunn's client has decided to pursue a civil case with the goal of raising awareness and encouraging others to report sexual assault."
In October 2023, prosecutors announced that McGregor would not be charged with any crimes related to the alleged incident.
In a statement to Irish Legal News, Barbara Llanes, representing McGregor, discussed the new lawsuit.
"The State's Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue after a thorough investigation, and now, almost two years and at least three lawyers later, the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case too will be dismissed."
The lawsuit claimed that staff and security at the arena knew that McGregor's conduct was wrong and did not take sufficient measures to protect her. Additionally, the suit accused staff of serving McGregor too much alcohol, despite having knowledge of the increased risk of battery.
McGregor was at the game to advertise a pain-relief product. He accidentally hit the Heat's mascot Burnie and tried to spray the character as he was being removed from the court.
A person in McGregor's entourage led the woman to a men's room, where the assault occurred, she alleged.
The Heat declined to comment on the litigation, as stated by their spokesperson to The Associated Press.
