Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers may have suffered a season-ending knee injury during the game against the Bills, according to the coach.
On Sunday night, the Bills defeated McCaffrey's team early.
Christian McCaffrey, a star player for the San Francisco 49ers, suffered a knee injury during Sunday's 35-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, but it seemed more severe than it actually was.
McCaffrey may have sustained a PCL injury, which could potentially end his season, according to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
He stated that PCL typically lasts for a few weeks, but he is still unsure about the exact duration.
The 49ers' game plan early against the Bills centered on the running back, who ran the ball seven times and was targeted three times through the air as snow fell on the field at Highmark Stadium.
Before leaving the field, he accumulated 53 rushing yards and two catches for 14 yards.
The snow worsened the situation for San Francisco, as the team had already been struggling with injuries on both sides of the ball. Brock Purdy had a poor performance, with only 94 passing yards on 18 attempts.
"McCaffrey is one of the best running backs in the league, according to Purdy. Losing him like that affects the offense, Purdy believes."
McCaffrey sustained injuries after being tackled during an 18-yard run in the second quarter, and he was unable to continue playing for a few plays.
"Shanahan said that he looked like he was about to break a house call, but he had a great week of practice and came out looking real good. He was frustrated, but he could feel his urgency and stuff."
Achilles tendinitis has kept McCaffrey out of action for most of the season, preventing him from defending his title as the Offensive Player of the Year.
In four games, he has accumulated 202 rushing yards and 146 yards through 15 catches, but he has not scored this season.
