CFP officials should reconsider Miami's ranking after the latest release, according to the ACC.
The ACC expressed dissatisfaction with the CFP selection committee.
The Miami Hurricanes' College Football Playoff chances were diminished on Tuesday when they were not included in the penultimate bracket before conference championship weekend.
Miami's 21-0 lead over Syracuse Orange was squandered, resulting in a 42-38 loss. This was Miami's second loss in three games, the other being against Georgia Tech.
The three-loss Alabama Crimson Tide was ranked 11th in the bracket, despite losing to Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Oklahoma this season.
The ACC may only have one team in the playoffs if SMU loses the conference title game against Clemson, despite being ranked No. 3 in the bracket. Conference commissioner Jim Phillips expressed disappointment over Miami's fall from No. 6 to No. 12.
Miami has more wins and fewer losses than the team director ahead of them and a dominant victory over an SEC team whose late-season surge includes a win over No. 13 Ole Miss, according to Phillips. Additionally, Miami has two losses by a combined nine points to ranked Syracuse and Georgia Tech, which just took No. 5 Georgia to eight overtimes. Therefore, Miami deserves better from the Committee.
"We hope the Committee will reconsider and include Miami in the final rankings. We will continue to anticipate this weekend, when Clemson and SMU can earn an ACC championship and represent the conference in the CFP."
The CFP selection committee chair, Warde Manuel, explained on ESPN why Alabama was chosen over Miami.
"In evaluating both teams and considering their rankings, we believe highly of both teams," he stated. "Alabama is ranked 11th and Miami is ranked 12th. However, when it comes to their performance against current top 25 teams, Alabama has a 3-1 record while Miami has a 0-1 record. Additionally, Alabama has a 6-1 record against teams above .500, while Miami has a 4-2 record. Both teams have had some losses that were not ideal, but in the last three games, Miami has lost twice."
Depending on the outcome of the conference championships, things could still change, as Manuel stated.
