Caleb Williams of the bears admitted to being angry after Ben Johnson pulled a catfishing prank on him.
This offseason, one of the top coaching candidates is Ben Johnson.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was "enraged" after being tricked by several children into thinking that Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson had agreed to become the Bears' head coach.
A video of a group of young kids texting Johnson as Williams went viral this week.
The prank was revealed during a FaceTime call with the rookie quarterback, who had initially believed the kids.
On the "St. Brown" podcast, Williams admitted to being upset after the prank, despite appearing to laugh it off on the call.
"I was getting spam calls from all my friends that night, like, ‘No way,’" Williams recalled. "I didn't respond to one text because I was so mad and pissed off."
When Williams hung up, he was no longer trying not to flip out.
He was furious after getting off the call and wanted to destroy something. He laughed about it later.
Williams is unsure how his number was obtained, despite claiming to have had it for at least 15 years.
Williams stated that the text appeared highly official, reminiscent of the ones he had received from college coaches and other coaches prior to being drafted. He added that the text looked extremely professional. Since then, he has changed his phone number.
"I don't know where I got the number, but I've had it for 15 years. I don't have it anymore, so I'm getting a new one. I don't know how I got it, but I'm sure someone must have given it to me or I must have stumbled upon it somehow."
Although he initially reacted negatively to the prank, Williams eventually acknowledged the efforts of the young fans.
"I must admit, it was a classic prank. It was a top-notch, A-class prank. I have to give them credit. I wasn't caught in the act."
