Caitlin Clark to Participate in LPGA Pro-Am Golf Tournament
Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam will join forces with Clark.
On Wednesday, Caitlin Clark will participate in a pro-am at Pelican Golf Club before The Annika, taking a swing at golf.
Nelly Korda, the current best female golf player in the world and the LPGA Tour's Player of the Year, will play the front nine with Clark. Afterward, she will play the back nine with Annika Sorenstam, a legendary golfer who retired from the full-time circuit in 2008.
"At the LPGA Women’s Leadership Summit on Tuesday, Clark stated, "I've tried my best to practice as much as possible. I'm just an average golfer, and I'll hit some good and some bad shots. However, I'll make sure not to hit anyone outside of the ropes. It'll be enjoyable.""
The WNBA Rooke of the Year star from Indiana had an outstanding first season, which is widely considered one of the best in league history.
After the Fever were eliminated from the playoffs, she joked that maybe she would take up professional golf in the offseason. Clark, who had been playing basketball for months straight since November 2023, did not seem interested in joining the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league that was about to start.
She was kidding about taking up golf, sort of.
I've tried to dedicate as much time as possible to practice, but there is only so much optimism one can have. You simply hope for the best, pray," she said at the leadership summit. "No, I've practiced a little and I just had the quote about becoming a professional golfer. Everyone thought I was serious. I wasn't serious. I love it. I love being outside and competing with my friends.
"I am excited to be here and enjoy the company of the best while having a great time."
