Before the playoffs, the Packers suffer a significant blow to their offense with a knee injury to their star wide receiver.
On Sunday, the Packers suffered a loss and Christian Watson sustained an injury to his ACL.
On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Jordan Love suffered a significant loss when a key player went down during their 24-22 defeat to the Chicago Bears.
According to the NFL Network, Christian Watson, the star wide receiver, suffered an ACL tear and additional knee damage, ending his season and casting doubt on the start of the next season.
On Monday, Matt LaFleur, the head coach of the Packers, confirmed that Watson would not be playing for the rest of the year.
In the second quarter, Watson, 25, collapsed while running a route and sustained an injury on a non-contact play.
LaFleur talked about what losing Watson means for the offense.
LaFleur expressed his disappointment over the loss of the player's presence on the field, as he is highly versatile and can play multiple positions. He can be placed at the X, F, or Z positions, and can be moved around easily. The player's size and speed make him a tough opponent to replicate, and there are not many players like him in the league. LaFleur expressed his sympathy for the player.
"Unfortunately, it's not only about our team being hurt, but also about him being more affected because I know how much he has invested in this project. All our players share this sentiment, and it's a part of our game that we never want to witness."
Watson had a knee injury going into Week 18, but LaFleur stated that the injured knee was the other knee that had not been causing issues.
LaFleur said that he is confident in how Watson will attack his rehab.
LaFleur stated, "I know he'll handle the adversity and it'll just be a bump in the road for him. He's built and wired that way, so I think there'll be good, but it's just going to be down the road."
Watson, drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft from North Dakota State, is currently in his third season.
Watson had 29 catches for 620 yards and two touchdowns across 15 games this season. He is the second-best deep threat in the NFL, with an average of 21.4 yards per catch.
The Packers, with a 11-6 record, are the No. 7 seed in the NFC and will face the No. 2-seeded Philadelphia Eagles on the road in the Wild Card Round.
The Packers will depend on Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Malik Heath to fill in for Watson.
On Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET, the Packers and Eagles will face off on FOX.
