AOC is repeatedly criticized by Riley Gaines for removing pronouns from her bio after advocating for trans athletes.
Ocasio-Cortez has been criticized by Gains for her support of trans athletes.
Riley Gaines held Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., accountable for not using the correct pronouns.
On Thursday, the congresswoman became the talk of social media when X users noticed that she had removed her pronouns "she/her" from her bio. Gains, a former NCAA swimmer and OutKick contributor, joined in the mockery of Ocasio-Cortez on X with several posts.
Gaines wrote in response to a post that claimed Ocasio-Cortez removed her pronouns from her bio before May of this year, stating that they would pretend they never embraced or celebrated the insanity and that the compliant, virtue-signaling sheep should not be forgotten.
Ocasio-Cortez had previously apologized for not including pronouns in her bio next to a photo, but Gains later responded to a video showing this.
"We're winning and its glorious," Gaines wrote.
Gains continued to mock Ocasio-Cortez in a solo post even on Thursday.
"What will we call AOC now that her pronouns have been removed from her bio?!" Gaines wrote.
Ocasio-Cortez has been a frequent advocate for transgender rights and trans inclusion in women's sports during her tenure, and recently spoke out against Green Party vice presidential candidate Butch Ware for saying he did not believe trans athletes should play in women's sports, calling the ticket "predatory."
Ocasio-Cortez believes acknowledging biological reality is "predatory." Gaines argues that sexualizing children and normalizing pedophilia is actually predatory.
Ocasio-Cortez has adopted a divisive position regarding transgender rights and safeguards.
The Biden-Harris administration passed a Title IX reform in April that aimed to provide more protection for gender identity in schools and universities, but Ocasio-Cortez argued that the reform did not go far enough in favor of transgender people, particularly transgender athletes who want to compete in women's sports.
There is no justification for the Biden administration to implement this policy. It is unacceptable and shameful. The administration has the opportunity to reverse this decision and they should do so immediately. This is a disgrace.
The administration issued a rule that clarified that Title IX's prohibition of "sex" discrimination in schools encompasses discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation, and "pregnancy or related conditions."
In June, experts presented evidence to Planet Chronicle Digital that the administration's regulation, despite its insistence, would ultimately result in more biological men competing in women's sports.
Still, that wasn't good enough for Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez has also supported the Equality Act, which was introduced in 2019 and has undergone revisions that would require public schools to permit biologically male athletes who identify as transgender to participate on girls' sports teams.
In March 2023, Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, pushed for a transgender bill of rights, introducing a resolution that stated the responsibility of the Federal Government to establish and enforce a Transgender Bill of Rights.
The resolution recommended a federal law to enable biological men to participate in sports teams and programs that correspond to their gender identity and utilize school facilities that match their gender identity.
As a former college swimmer who tied with a trans athlete at the NCAA championships in 2022, Gaines has passionately opposed trans inclusion in women's sports.
Thomas shared his harrowing recollection of being forced to share a locker room with Gains at a Trump campaign rally on Oct. 23.
"Gaines recounted the horrific experience of being forced to strip naked in front of a 6-foot-4 man who watched the entire process, leaving them feeling humiliated and violated."
The NCAA is being sued by Gains and other female athletes for allegedly violating their Title IX rights through its gender identity policies.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta, describes the dismay Gaines and other swimmers experienced upon learning they would have to share a locker room with Thomas at the 2022 championships in Atlanta. The lawsuit outlines several races in which Gaines and Thomas competed, including the 200-yard final where they tied for fifth place but Thomas was awarded the fifth-place trophy.
Numerous Democrats have withdrawn their support for transgender participation in women's sports both before and after the election.
In a New York Times article, Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass, and Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., voiced opposition to trans inclusion.
Despite criticism from Democratic allies who labeled his comments "transphobic," Moulton has remained unapologetic and continued to defend his stance.
