AOC defended trans athletes in girls' sports, saying, "Trans girls are girls!"
Ocasio-Cortez made a false statement that Republicans have taken away women's right to control their own bodies.
On Tuesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was the subject of a viral roast campaign following an unhinged rant on the House of Representatives floor.
Ocasio-Cortez criticized The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act in a two-minute speech that contained false and unsupported statements. She concluded her speech with an unclear assertion that "CEOs support this bill due to its connection to the ongoing California Wildfires."
The bill passed the House with 216 Republicans and 2 Democrats in favor, while 206 Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, voted against it.
Ocasio-Cortez began her argument by mentioning Republicans' past votes against the "Violence Against Women Act" and a supposed inaccuracy regarding their stance on abortion rights.
Ocasio-Cortez stated that Republicans who have consistently voted against the Violence Against Women Act, taken away women's right to choose and control their own bodies, and stood by as women bled out in parking lots across the country, are now pretending to care about women.
Currently, 21 states and the District of Columbia have laws protecting abortion, and President-elect Trump has stated that under his administration, the decision on abortion rights will be left to the states.
Ocasio-Cortez, like other Democrats, made unfounded accusations that the law would put young girls at risk of sexual predation.
Ocasio-Cortez stated, "So, why? To expand gender and genital examinations for little girls in this country, under the guise of protecting trans girls!"
The bill does not specify that girls or women must undergo a genital examination to participate in sports. Nevertheless, Ocasio-Cortez, Jeffries, and other Democrats have used the possibility of such examinations as their main argument against the act.
Ocasio-Cortez stated that although the majority currently believes there is no provision in the bill allowing for genital examinations, the lack of an enforcement mechanism in the bill opens the door for any enforcement mechanism.
It is a violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 for federally funded education programs or activities to operate, sponsor, or facilitate athletic programs or activities that allow individuals of the male sex to participate in programs or activities that are designated for women or girls.
At birth, an individual's reproductive biology and genetics determine their sex under the bill.
Ocasio-Cortez has consistently advocated for trans inclusion in women's sports and has previously used the word "predatory" to describe those who oppose it. In November, she re-shared a video of Green Party VP candidate Butch Ware speaking out against trans inclusion in women's sports, with a caption that read, "This ticket is predatory and people deserve better."
Despite opposition from her party and liberal media figures, Ocasio-Cortez remains firm in her belief about what constitutes a woman or girl.
"Trans girls are girls!" Ocasio-Cortez said at Tuesday's hearing.
Ocasio-Cortez began with a series of unclear and incomplete statements regarding the issue.
"Thank you for your concern about women, which is the first time I've seen it. I don't know who's been to gym class recently, but girls, even if you only believe there are two genders, I've played co-ed sports all the time!" she said, before moving onto another point.
Ocasio-Cortez cautioned that the bill could lead to a valuation of traditional femininity.
This bill opens the door for women to perform a specific kind of femininity for the men drafting it, and to question who is a woman based on appearance, presentation, and body choices.
The bill does not concern itself with the way biological females dress, present themselves, or any anatomical or bodily choices they may make.
Ocasio-Cortez ended her speech by stating that the bill is "adored" by "bigots" and "attackers," before making her inexplicable link to CEOs and the California Wildfires.
This bill is loved by bigoted folks, assaulters, and CEOs. However, due to the ongoing fire in Los Angeles, this bill is the top priority for the majority.
On Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez faced criticism on social media for her outburst.
Ocasio-Cortez has previously supported the Equality Act, which was introduced in 2019 and has undergone revisions that would require public schools to permit biologically male athletes who identify as transgender to participate in girls' sports teams.
In March 2023, Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, pushed for a transgender bill of rights, introducing a resolution that stated the responsibility of the Federal Government to establish and enforce a Transgender Bill of Rights.
The issue of preventing trans inclusion has become a bipartisan priority, with Republicans and Trump taking the lead on this issue.
