Adam Copeland and Christian Cage discuss the impact of planking on their lives in AEW.
Pure Plank was launched by Copeland and Cage.
Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, both Elite Wrestling stars, are no longer the athletic powerhouses they once were during their peak as world and tag team champions.
In recent years, Copeland, 51, and Cage, also 51, have both suffered neck and leg injuries, respectively. In order to perform regular daily tasks and continue their careers, they needed to make a change.
Pure Plank, a revolutionary planking experience, was created by Copeland and Reso, longtime friends, to make it comfortable, functional, and engaging for all.
While interacting with his children, Copeland experienced a sudden realization.
Copeland admitted to Planet Chronicle Digital that he had two kids and had not been paying attention to his diet and exercise routine until one day when he was carrying them up the stairs and realized he was probably 60 pounds overweight. He felt exhausted at the top of the stairs and realized he needed to get in better shape for his daughters' sake. He had been slacking and getting lazy, but he knew he needed to prioritize his health for his daughters' sake.
"To avoid feeling discouraged by comparing my current abilities to my past performance, I chose to begin with exercises that I believed would be a suitable starting point. I opted to start with planking, as I had previously done it and recognized its effectiveness in strengthening the core. By focusing on building a strong core, I believed that the rest of my abilities would improve as well."
Planet Chronicle Digital reported that Reso was working on getting in shape for his wrestling comeback during the pandemic and was building a small gym in his garage in search of small pieces of equipment to use for his workouts.
He previously dismissed planking as a workout, but after trying it, he couldn't hold it for even 30 seconds.
Reso was alone in the garage, feeling embarrassed about not being a high-level athlete. He couldn't hold a plank for 30 seconds, which added to his embarrassment. However, Reso's mind works differently. If he is not good at something, he becomes obsessed with it until he becomes proficient. From that moment on, he became obsessed with planking.
"By doing it daily, I saw my core strengthen and hold a plank longer. Additionally, changing my eating habits led to a body transformation that I had never experienced before. At 47 years old, I achieved a six-pack for the first time."
Planking became a daily habit for Reso, which eventually led to a business idea.
He said, "Working out in Florida during the summer, I sweat so much that I lose my exercise position. I started thinking there must be a better way to maintain the proper position while exercising, especially when my elbows slide out from underneath me. That's when I came up with the idea of using handles to hold me in place and maintain the proper position, making the exercise more effective."
"Pure Plank aimed to position individuals correctly to enable them to hold immediately."
Due to their long-standing friendship, Copeland and Reso had no hesitation about entering into a business partnership.
Having a pro wrestling career again was another bright side.
"According to Copeland, the planking helped them get their careers back. They were retired for nine and seven years respectively, but the planking marked the beginning of their return to the ring. It was the gateway to getting their diet in check, feeling better, having more energy, and waking up with a desire to conquer the day instead of letting it conquer them."
If the user has shoulder or back problems, the comfort of the board itself can still make it possible to plank in pro wrestling, despite the punishment the body can take.
"Planking is beneficial for our careers and everyday life, as it strengthens our core and helps maintain overall fitness. As a result, it can lead to better performance in other areas as well."
