Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green didn't communicate for 18 years following the conclusion of 'Beverly Hills, 90210'.
Beverly Hills, 90210: Donna Martin and David Silver starred together for 10 years.
After the conclusion of "Beverly Hills, 90210," Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green disclosed the cause of their rift.
Despite being close while filming, the former co-stars of the popular Fox show had a sudden end to their friendship following the show's conclusion, which they discussed on Green's podcast, "Oldish."
Green recounted how he visited Vincent Young's house several times after filming wrapped up, hoping to maintain a connection. However, he eventually realized that it was never going to happen.
He continued, "I recall being at the '90210' DVD release party and you were married to Dean McDermott and I was with Megan Fox when we were still dating. We arrived, but you never greeted me once. I kept missing you both, and then you disappeared."
On "Beverly Hills, 90210," Green and Spelling played Donna Martin and David Silver. Their characters' love interests on the show mirrored their real-life relationship, as they dated off camera for a while.
Spelling and Young began dating in 2000, with Young portraying Hunter on the show. Their relationship lasted for two years before they broke up in 2001. Spelling admitted that the complexity of their romance made her feel anxious every time Green would visit her.
"It was just this thing of like, ‘She just doesn’t want to be my friend.’ I genuinely felt that way," he said. "I tried to visit you and I would call you. When that wasn’t reciprocated, so I gave up. I didn’t know what was going on in your life." — Brian Austin Green
"That relationship was not a good one for me, and as it progressed, I became entangled in the situation. I avoided you because you didn't approve of my relationship with Vincent. Although we had a successful professional relationship with Vincent, I believe you felt that our personal relationship was not suitable for me."
She continued, "My process was different, and I would avoid those who would fight for me fiercely. I never stopped thinking about you and never stopped wanting to reach out and reconnect."
After the final season of the show in 2000, the once-close cast mates did not communicate for 18 years. When asked about the reason for their break in friendship, Spelling stated that she could recall the last conversation they had before they went without speaking for such a long time.
"I recall feeling tears in my eyes as we grew apart because we were so close. It was almost as if we were going through a divorce," she stated. "You had said, 'We'll always be together. We'll even go on vacations together,' and that was the last time we spoke for 18 years."
Although Green exerted great effort to preserve their friendship, he couldn't shake off the feeling that "she doesn't want to be my friend."
"He informed Spelling that he sincerely felt that way. He attempted to visit and call her, but when it wasn't reciprocated, he gave up. He was unaware of what was happening in her life."
Spelling recognized that her relationship with Young contributed to the breakdown of her friendship with Green, but she also believed that Young's relationship with Vanessa Marcil created tension between them.
Kassius is their son, and they started dating in 1999 when Marcil joined the "Beverly Hills, 90210" cast in its 9th season. They remained together for four years until 2003.
"Seeing a friend's relationship from a perspective of love and frustration, Spelling acknowledged the difficulty of observing the situation and not being able to intervene."
Spelling and Green have reconnected and are closer than ever, with Spelling revealing during an April 2024 episode of her podcast "misSpelling" that they have a "brother and sister" relationship and can "tell him everything."
