Steve McQueen's son, Chad McQueen, passed away at the age of 63.
On Thursday, Planet Chronicle Digital received confirmation from Arthur H. Barens, who represents McQueen, that the news is true.
Chad McQueen, the son of renowned actor Steve McQueen, passed away in 2020 after sustaining an injury that left him unable to fully recover.
McQueen, born on Dec. 28, 1960, is most recognized for portraying Dutch, a bully in "The Karate Kid" and its sequel.
He was cast in "New York Cop" and "Red Line," and, according to Variety, there were plans for him to reprise his "Karate Kid" role in the Netflix spin-off "Cobra Kai," but the plans did not materialize.
Like his famous father, McQueen pursued auto racing outside of acting.
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Chad McQueen, son of celebrated actor Steve McQueen. In 2020, Chad sustained an injury from which he never fully recovered." — Arthur H. Barens, attorney for Chad McQueen
Barens stated that his passion for racing not only showcased his exceptional talent but also served as a tribute to his father's legacy. He passed on his passion, knowledge, and dedication to his family's heritage to his children, Chase and Madison, who will continue to carry on the McQueen legacy through Renaissance Licensing.
According to Variety, Chad participated in races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring. In 2010, he established McQueen Racing. The company's website states that his children, Chase and Madison, now lead the company.
McQueen Racing's website declares that Chase and Madison, together, form a dynamic team that upholds their father's legacy while infusing their own passion for racing. Their commitment to excellence and their relentless pursuit of pushing the boundaries of performance and design have positioned McQueen Racing at the forefront of the industry.
Barens stated that Chad's journey as a devoted father to Chase and Madison, as well as his unwavering commitment to Jeanie, demonstrated a life filled with love and dedication. He is also survived by his mother, Neile Adams, a renowned Broadway performer, dancer, and singer.
Chad McQueen is the father of "Vampire Diaries" and "Chicago Fire" star Steven R. McQueen from a previous marriage.
Frequently, McQueen paid homage to his father on social media, who passed away in 1980 due to cancer-related complications.
Last year, he wrote a heartfelt message to his dad, expressing gratitude for being his guardian angel and promising to tell his story the way he would want it because no one knew him like he did.
The family is requesting privacy during this challenging period as they reflect on and commemorate Chad's remarkable life. Barens also urged individuals to contribute to Boys Republic in Chad's memory.
