Julie Bowen, star of 'Modern Family,' shares her concerns about her teen sons' lack of communication and writes books on 'sex, drugs' to help them open up.
The 54-year-old actress from 'Happy Gilmore 2' has a 17-year-old son and twin 15-year-old boys with her ex-husband Scott Phillips.
This week, Julie Bowen humorously admitted that she feels like she's in a "desert" when it comes to communicating with her teenage sons, both in terms of information and emotions.
The "Modern Family" actress stated that she won't allow her children to use their phones while in the car, but she's currently in the desert trying to get Oliver, 17, and John and Gustave, 15, to open up to her.
"I felt like I was dumped by three guys I was deeply in love with, and I was left alone in the kitchen. It was as desperate as I felt in high school when I had a crush on a boy."
While primping her hair, she joked, 'Like, "Hi, it's me, mom. I birthed you." They don't care,'
The 54-year-old actress shares her sons with ex Scott Phillips.
She has a collection of informative books on sex, drugs, and other personal issues, and she frequently discusses these topics with her sons.
She stated that although she has a "no phones in the car" rule, "they're allowed to listen to whatever music they want, but that, in and of itself, you're just like 'My eyes are bleeding.'"
Her sons are excited about her upcoming movie "Happy Gilmore 2" and her new series, "Hysteria!", just like she is.
Despite not typically watching her actions, Bowen's sons are excited to see the "Happy Gilmore" sequel, starring Adam Sandler.
At the conclusion of the interview, she joked about her children's unique language, stating that she had promised them she would never use the phrase "Skibidi! Good comms, solid comms, kids."
According to Urban Dictionary, Skibidi is a "word typically used to initiate a conversation, particularly one filled with mindless chatter."
"I was told by someone that I was 'mad rizzy' with a waiter once, and I replied, 'You mean like cha-ris-ma?' They were taken aback and asked, 'What?? I said, 'Where do you think that word comes from? You didn't invent rizzy.'"
Since Bowen has been shooting on the other side of the country, communications have become even more difficult.
She communicates with her friends on the East Coast, who reside in LA, only through Snapchat, as she demonstrated some of the funny poses she sends them in her snaps.
