"It was a deeply troubling act by three young men." — Kelsey Grammer
"The love you had is genuine and enduring. It persists and has greatly benefited me."
Kelsey Grammer, the star of 'Frasier,' discusses the significance of faith in his life.
It took "a long time" for "Cheers" star to feel comfortable writing a book about his sister's experiences.
Through a medium, Grammer communicated with his deceased sister to cope with her passing.
In 1975, Karen, Grammer's 18-year-old sister, was kidnapped outside a restaurant by serial killer Freddie Glenn. Glenn allegedly raped the teenager before brutally attacking her and leaving her to die. A week later, Grammer identified his sister's body. At the time, he was just 20 years old.
In 1976, Glenn was convicted for the murders of Karen Grammer and two other victims from the previous year. The Supreme Court ruled that Glenn could seek parole after 30 years. However, the sitcom star has twice helped to block attempts for Glenn to receive parole, serving as justice for his sister and the other victims' families.
In 2009, during a parole hearing, Kelsey penned a letter to the court expressing her deepest feelings about her sister, Karen. She wrote, "Karen was my dearest friend and the most remarkable person I have ever known. She had so much to live for, and I was devastated when she passed away. I still miss her, and the emptiness she left behind is felt in my bones."
"I was her older brother, responsible for safeguarding her. However, I couldn't fulfill that duty. This incident has haunted me ever since."
The 69-year-old star first experienced loss at the age of 13 when his father was shot and killed during a home invasion. Following the death of his sister Karen, Grammer's two half-brothers, Stephen and Billy, died in a scuba diving accident in the Virgin Islands.
