Contestant on 'Wheel of Fortune' blames Ryan Seacrest for missing out on $1M.
Pat Sajak Defended 'Wheel of Fortune' Game Show Rules Amidst Fan Outrage
Ryan Seacrest is being blamed by fans for a "Wheel of Fortune" contestant missing out on the million-dollar prize.
In the first week of replacing Pat Sajak as the host of the game show, Seacrest faced criticism from fans who felt he was struggling to gain traction.
During her second night hosting "Wheel of Fortune," Airica landed on a $1 million dollar wedge during her turn. If she had won the game, she could have traded the wedge for the $100,000 wedge in the bonus round, potentially winning the big prize.
Airica uncovered a $1,000 mystery wedge after solving the first puzzle and was presented with the option to reveal it or depart.
Seacrest explained the rules after the contestant picked "T."
"Airica, the two T's are worth $2,000. You could keep them or risk them based on what you see on the other side."
Seacrest stated, "It could be a bankrupt or it could be $10,000."
After the "Wheel of Fortune" contestant decided to "risk it," Airica revealed the bankrupt wedge.
Seacrest explained, "I must take the mystery and the million-dollar wedge."
"No problem," she responded, to which he added, "I'm sorry."
Fans were outraged that Seacrest failed to explain that Airica had to give up the chance at the million-dollar prize ahead of time after she forfeited her $1 million wedge.
Social media users swiftly criticized Seacrest for his error on "Wheel of Fortune," stating that Sajak would have correctly explained the rules.
"If Pat had taken the risk, she would have lost the million-dollar wedge," a fan wrote on X.
Seacrest is okay, but he's been yelling a lot. He didn't help the woman remember she had a million on a mystery wedge.
Pat would always remind the contestants that if they looked under the $10,000, they could lose their $1 million wedge. Similarly, Ryan needs to do this too.
The "Wheel of Fortune" fan criticized the contestant's move and said, "I witnessed a terrible play on the show's dumbest wedge. The lady had the $1 million wedge and decided to risk it for 1% of that amount to go for the $10k mystery wedge. It was a bankruptcy. STUPID."
A fan defended Seacrest, stating that contestants are briefed with complete rules before taping begins and that the edited-out scenes in post-production make room for more gameplay.
Despite her bankruptcy flub, Airica amassed over $17,000 on "Wheel of Fortune." Meanwhile, Promise advanced to the Bonus Round puzzle.
For season 42 of "Wheel of Fortune," Sajak was replaced by Seacrest as the host.
