Dolly Parton and her sister, Rachel Parton George, collaborated on their latest cookbook, 'Good Lookin' Cookin'
Dolly Parton and her sister, Rachel Parton George, are sharing with fans their childhood experiences in their family.
The sisters revealed that their hit song "Good Lookin' Cookin'" was inspired by their family's three core values: "God, music, and food" during an interview with Allrecipes.
Our family revolved around God, music, and food, as Parton shared with the outlet.
The family stories in the Southern-style recipe book remind the country music legend of home.
"Mama's home cooking tasted like childhood memories to me, according to Parton."
"God, music and food were the three big things in our family." — Dolly Parton
She continued, "I cook like Mama, using a handful of this and that. Rachel is also creative but ensures that her dishes taste good, unlike my sloppy approach."
For her, cooking and making music have always been intertwined.
"Like writing a song, it's just being creative," Parton stated. "Some of my best songs and cooking come from the same creative process. The better I write, the better I cook, and vice versa."
The sisters' cookbook, set for release on Tuesday, will feature specific dishes such as Hot Wing Dip, Family Favorite Meatloaf, Slaw of Many Colors, Light My Fire Banana Foster, and Fried Chicken and Gravy.
What song did Parton associate with her Hot Wing Dip? She replied, "Jolene."
George said, 'Oh, something spicy — like our Hot Wing Dip.'" "Parton explained, 'That woman was just hungry for my man. It’s not in the cookbook, but it’s in the song.'
Dolly Parton has a lot on her plate, professionally. In June, she announced plans to bring "Hello, I'm Dolly" to Broadway. She is currently writing new songs to go along with some of her past hits and co-writing a stage story inspired by her life for a musical that she hopes to land on Broadway in 2026.
She stated that she had written numerous original songs for the show and included all of your favorites. You'll laugh, cry, clap, stomp, and it's truly a Grand Ol' Opera. Pun and fun intended.
In 2009, a stage version of "9 to 5" was produced on Broadway, starring Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty, and Allison Janney, and in 1993, her song "With Bells On" was featured in the Christmas special "Candles, Snow & Mistletoe."
In 1967, Parton got her big break on "The Porter Wagoner Show," which catapulted her to national fame. Since then, she has starred in films, written books, won Grammys, been named MusiCares Person of the Year, and donated $1 million for coronavirus research.
She holds the second-most Grammy nominations among women, with 52 nods and 11 wins, surpassed only by Beyoncé's 79 nominations and 24 wins. Additionally, she was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award a decade ago.
