The "hardest working royal," Princess Anne, is sidelined due to a concussion as King Charles and Kate Middleton battle cancer.
As a precautionary measure for observation, the 73-year-old sister of King Charles III was hospitalized.
Buckingham Palace has been rocked by another health woe hitting the royal family.
On Monday, the palace declared that Princess Anne suffered minor injuries and a concussion due to an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate in southwest England. Her medical team stated that her head injuries were consistent with a collision with a horse's head or legs.
Helena Chard, a British broadcaster and photographer, stated that Princess Anne's injury is unfortunate given the ongoing cancer treatment and recuperation period of the king and Princess of Wales.
"As per Chard, Princess Anne's upcoming engagements have been canceled due to her hospitalization. She is in good spirits and is expected to recover soon. However, the absence of three senior working members of the royal family from their duties is not a good look."
"As King Charles' right-hand woman, Princess Anne has a special understanding of the monarchy and knows what is expected of her. She supports the King and has worked with him as a working royal from a young age."
The king's younger sister was treated at the scene and later transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, with her husband, Vice Adm. Tim Laurence, accompanying her. Emergency services were called to the estate.
The palace issued a statement saying that the king has been kept informed and joins the royal family in sending their love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery.
The incident happened while the princess was strolling within the safeguarded boundaries of the estate, according to Britain's Press Association.
"According to British royals expert Hilary Fordwich, Princess Anne will not attend the state banquet held in honor of the emperor and empress of Japan's visit. This puts more pressure on King Charles and his heir, Prince William, as they will have to shake more hands and build more bonds."
The only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Anne is known for being one of the hardest-working members of the royal family. At 73 years old, she has been commended for taking on more royal duties following Charles' cancer diagnosis.
The palace announced that Anne's engagements have been postponed due to her hospitalization as a precautionary measure for observation.
""Southmead Hospital, part of the North Bristol NHS Trust, is where Princess Anne stayed overnight. It's about two and a half hours' drive directly west of London and specializes in neuroscience," said Fordwich."
According to Christopher Andersen, author of "The King" and "The Day Diana Died," it appears that the royal family is facing an increasing number of health crises.
"Although concussions are not a novel occurrence in the Windsor family, it is likely that Anne will resume her duties soon, as she is not one to take things easy, especially when there is much to accomplish with the king and Princess of Wales temporarily unavailable."
Anne is widely regarded as the most dependable member of the royal family. The palace's official website states that she is involved with over 300 charities, organizations, and military regiments in the U.K. and abroad. Additionally, she dedicates a significant portion of her life to official engagements and visits representing the royal family. The palace also highlights that Anne has played a crucial role in the establishment of several charities, including The Princess Royal's Trust for Carers, now known as Carers Trust, Transaid, and Riders for Health.
"In the years between 2002 and 2022, she completed more than 11,000 duties, surpassing any other living royal, according to Fordwich. Last year, she outperformed her brother the king, who completed 425 engagements, with her own 457 engagements. They have a healthy competition each year to see who can complete the most working engagements. She was pleased to have won last year. As they have grown older together, her relationship with her brother has deepened."
"Princess Anne is the most senior working royal and is loved worldwide. If she is unable to work for a while, it would feel like the monarchy is too slimmed down. Princess Anne is incredibly strong and industrious. Her daughter Zara stated that her mum puts her to shame, and she doesn't know how she keeps so fit and busy. She works like a Trojan and both Zara and her brother Peter are in admiration of her energy and work ethic."
Several royal experts agreed that Anne is a skilled equestrian and will likely recover from her injury faster than anticipated. The princess is renowned for her passion for horses and even participated in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games as a member of the British equestrian team.
"Princess Anne, who spends most of her life on horseback, has probably sustained more injuries than any other member of the royal family, with the possible exception of King Charles."
Anne's toughness is greatly admired by the British people, despite her near-kidnapping incident in 1974 when she was 23. Even though four people were shot during the attempt, she kept her cool. Her blunt and outspoken manner made her Prince Philip's favorite child.
"The Princess Royal is arguably the hardest working royal, surpassing the late queen in the number of ceremony duties she performs annually. Since the king's cancer treatment, she has increased her workload and is indispensable to the monarchy. Next to Camilla, she is the king's most relied upon advisor. Charles has always been able to depend on his little sister, just as the late Queen Elizabeth did."
Despite the palace's slimmer appearance, several non-working royals, including Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Anne's children, and Zara's husband, are likely to contribute when needed. Chard noted that Prince William and his cousins have a strong bond, which was evident at Royal Ascot last week.
Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal expert, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that he believes Anne will quickly return to riding her horse and standing on her feet.
"Princess Anne is highly loved by the public and is also a skilled horse rider. She will be disappointed that this event will prevent her from her work and meeting people, as she has been representing King Charles as one of the senior working royals. Additionally, she has expressed opposition to the concept of a slimmed-down monarchy."
"Princess Anne sustained minor injuries and a concussion but is not expected to remain in the hospital for an extended period. After a brief recovery, she will resume her duties without any hindrance."
