Ina Garten 'stopped communicating' with Martha Stewart after her prison sentence.
Martha Stewart and Ina Garten have been friends since the '90s.
Martha Stewart and Ina Garten have varying reasons for the end of their 30-year friendship.
Garten stopped talking to Stewart after he was sentenced to prison, as explained in a New Yorker profile on Garten that was published earlier this month.
"Stewart stated that he found it distressing and unfriendly when she stopped talking to him upon his sentencing to Alderson Prison."
Despite her claims of innocence, Stewart was convicted of conspiracy, hindrance, and two counts of lying to investigators about her 2004 insider trading case. She was sentenced to five months in prison, five months of house arrest, and two years of supervised release.
Garten and Stewart had a falling out, according to Garten, who told The New Yorker that they drifted apart after Stewart started spending time at her new property in Bedford, New York.
Stewart's publicist reiterated that the cooking star is not bitter after the falling out.
"When I was sent off to Alderson Prison, she stopped talking to me. I found that extremely distressing and extremely unfriendly." — Martha Stewart
"There's no feud," Susan Magrino told The New Yorker.
Garten and Stewart first met in the '90s when Stewart visited Garten's store, Barefoot Contessa, in East Hampton, New York.
Garten previously recalled her first interaction with Stewart.
"In 2017, she shared with Time that her desk was positioned directly in front of the cheese case, and they ended up having a conversation. Later, they collaborated on benefits at her home, with her catering the event. As a result, they became friends."
In 1999, Garten joined Stewart for an episode of "Martha Stewart Living," which helped her release "The Barefoot Contessa" cookbook.
From 2002 to 2021, Ina Garten starred on the Food Network's "Barefoot Contessa" cooking show.
For years, Garten and Stewart have been the subject of fallout rumors. In a 2017 Time interview, Garten expressed her continued admiration for Stewart.
She took something that wasn't valued, which is home arts, and raised it to a level that people were proud to do it, completely changing the landscape, she said.
"Despite being in the food business for 40 years, cooking remains challenging for me as I am not a trained professional chef."
