Gaga unveils the truth behind her decision not to debunk speculations about her gender identity.
Gaga denies that rumors ever made her feel like a victim.
In the late 2000s, Lady Gaga gained fame and has since faced criticism on her style, music, and gender identity.
The entertainer has always advocated for inclusivity and acceptance, and now she is discussing why she chose to ignore rumors that she is a man.
Since I was 20 years old, I've been accustomed to false information being spread about me. As a performer, I find it amusing.
In my early 20s, there was a rumor that I was a man. Despite this, I traveled extensively for tours and record promotion, and in every interview I sat in, they asked about it.
"The "Die with a Smile" singer explained that the imagery on the Internet, which had been doctored, led to questions about their gender identity. People asked, "What do you have to say about the rumor that you're a man?""
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, has always been known for her eccentric outfits and pronounced makeup. The episode then cut to interviews Gaga had done in the past - fielding questions about being a "well-endowed young man" or "hermaphrodite," but he never directly addressing the allegations.
In a 2011 interview with Anderson Cooper on "60 Minutes," Gaga did not directly deny the rumors but instead "embraced" them.
"I don't see the point in issuing a press release about my p---s since my fans don't care and I don't either," she said.
"Gaga explained that she didn't respond to the question because she didn't identify with being a victim after hearing the lie. However, she considered how a child falsely accused of the same situation might feel ashamed if a public figure like her felt shame."
"The reason I didn't answer the question was because I didn't feel like a victim with that lie." — Lady Gaga
"I've been in situations where fixing a rumor was not in the best interest of others, so I tried to be thought-provoking and disruptive in another way. I used the misinformation to create another disruptive point."
"I believe that people assume my performance is not real, but to me, it's the most authentic aspect of myself. It's more real than the rumors that circulate about me to increase clicks."
