After sex and porn became distractions, Mike Posner decided to become celibate.
Last year, the singer who is known for hit song "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" abstained from sexual activity for a period of five months.
Mike Posner is opening up about his experience with celibacy.
In July, Posner, famous for his hit song "I Took a Pill in Ibiza," announced on Instagram that he had been celibate for several months following a breakup. He chose to abstain from porn, sex, and masturbation to maintain focus on what mattered most to him.
Posner revealed to People that he was celibate for four to five months last year due to the end of his relationship. He experienced grief and pain, and he believes that there is always a lesson to be learned from pain.
Posner stated, "Life instructed me to look in this direction. Despite my body's reluctance to experience pain, I would frequently engage in masturbation with porn or hook up with random women. However, this time, I decided not to follow through with those actions."
Being celibate and abstaining from masturbation was not a moral decision for him, but rather a way to focus on his responsibilities and avoid distractions.
"So that was that decision to be celibate and to not masturbate – it wasn't out of any morality. It was just to not distract myself from what I needed to do." — Mike Posner
Currently, Posner is in a "most magical, beautiful relationship" with the person he refers to as "my love."
Posner has been free of alcohol and marijuana for over a decade. He stated that drugs and alcohol "suppressed" his true emotions.
Posner stated that he stopped smoking weed about 13 years ago and stopped drinking shortly after. He explained that as he continued to abstain, he felt like he was peeling away more and more layers. For him, weed and alcohol were a distraction and a way to numb his emotions.
The singer stated, "I would use women, sex, masturbation, and porn to distract myself from my emotions."
"Maybe people say, 'Is it scary to discuss that?' But every man experiences these things, and this motivates me to learn as much as possible in life."
