On Wednesday, Harvey Weinstein entered a plea of not guilty to a new sex crime charge in New York, while he awaits the retrial of his landmark #MeToo case.

The ex-movie mogul was indicted for committing a criminal sex act, allegedly forcing oral sex on a woman during the period between April 29, 2006, and May 6 of that year.

Weinstein has consistently claimed that he only engaged in sexual activity with consent.

No details about the accuser involved in the new charge were released.

Harvey Weinstein has been indicted for an additional alleged violent sexual assault due to the bravery of a survivor who came forward, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The Democrat stated that the investigation is ongoing.

Last week, prosecutors disclosed that Weinstein had been charged with additional sex crimes, which were not included in the case that resulted in his 2020 conviction. However, the indictment was kept sealed until his upcoming arraignment.

Evidence of up to three alleged assaults was presented to the grand jury, including two incidents that occurred in hotels in the Tribeca neighborhood and one at a lower Manhattan residential building, according to prosecutors. These incidents took place between the mid-2000s and 2016, they added.

The new indictment does not specify whether any of the previous allegations are true.

Weinstein is awaiting retrial after the Court of Appeals ordered a new trial while bracing for the new charges.

The start date for the project is provisionally set for November 12th, but there's a possibility of a delay.

Defense lawyer Arthur Aidala stated that Mr. Weinstein desires to go to trial at the earliest opportunity, according to him.

The Court of Appeals determined that the trial judge unfairly permitted testimony against him based on unrelated allegations, and his term ended in 2022, removing him from the bench.

The lawyers of Weinstein argue that the new charges should be tried separately, while prosecutors want to include them in the retrial. Judge Curtis Farber will make a decision on this matter in early next month.

Weinstein, who was convicted in 2022 in a Los Angeles rape case, remains in prison while awaiting his New York retrial.

Weinstein, a 72-year-old man, was wheelchair-bound and went to court. After an emergency surgery on Sept. 9, he was admitted to a Manhattan hospital for draining fluid around his heart and lungs.

Last week, a judge decided to keep Weinstein in the prison ward at Bellevue Hospital indefinitely instead of transferring him back to the infirmary ward at Rikers Island jail complex in New York.

Weinstein, once a prominent figure in Hollywood, founded and co-founded production companies such as Miramax and The Weinstein Company, producing films including "Shakespeare in Love" and "The Crying Game."
