John Galliano remembered working with Princess Diana on her iconic looks just before the world's most prestigious and glamorous fashion event.
During the documentary "In Vogue: The 90s," Galliano recounted the memory of one day when all of them jumped into an old van and went to London. They met Princess Diana there, who had been invited to the Met and would wear one of Galliano's dresses.
In a few months after her divorce from future King Charles was finalized, Princess Diana was scheduled to appear on the "most influential red carpet in the world."
Galliano detailed the work behind Diana’s red carpet moment.
"Galliano exclaimed, "Wow, it was like a blessing!" as he shared, "We talked about drawings at Kensington Palace. I tried to advocate for pink, but she wasn't having it. 'No, not pink!' That was such a fun moment.""
As he spoke about the fashion project, old videos played of the designers working on Diana's Met Gala dress.
"The corset was correctly fitted, and it looked great," he said.
""I gasped as I remembered the event. She had ripped the corset out," Galliano exclaimed."
"She didn't want to wear the corset. She felt so liberated. She'd torn the corset out. The dress was much more… sensuous," he reflected.
At the Met Gala, Princess Diana wore a navy blue satin dress featuring daring lace straps and a shawl draped over her shoulders. She accentuated her look with a pearl choker necklace and matching earrings.
In the fashion documentary, footage of the late Princess of Wales displayed her self-assured demeanor as she made her grand entrance on the red carpet.
Galliano emphasized that the paparazzi's blinding cameras made the dress really bling and the jewels and everything.
At the time, the fashion designer was a creative director at Dior.
Galliano exclaimed, "Wow! Diana was my first couture client."
