24/7 security was necessary for Don Johnson's fame on 'Miami Vice'.
This month marks the 40th anniversary of the police drama's debut.
In the '80s, Don Johnson became a prominent figure due to his part in "Miami Vice," however, this popularity had its drawbacks.
Johnson revealed to People magazine that for a prolonged period, he was unable to venture anywhere.
He continued, "I had to isolate. The women knew where I was. We had security 24/7."
The fervor of the fans brought to mind the pressures Elvis Presley faced during his peak popularity.
Johnson stated, "I contemplated Elvis and mused, 'Isn't this how Elvis lived and died?' Although I don't compare myself to Elvis, I realized that he couldn't have a personal life. As a result, I learned to control it and made a promise not to let it confine me."
This month marks the 40th anniversary of "Miami Vice," which catapulted Johnson to fame as Sonny Crockett.

With fame and fans, Johnson was concerned about transitioning away from the role.
"I wanted to break free from being Sonny Crockett to avoid being typecast as an actor," he stated. "I saw the dangers of becoming too attached to a character and wanted to maintain my versatility as an actor."
Despite early difficulties in his career, the 74-year-old remains content with his current employment and is particularly thankful for the success of "Miami Vice."
This year marks the 40th anniversary of "Miami Vice," and to my surprise, I am still here.
Johnson stated that he excels at managing his celebrity status alongside his personal life.
"As an actor, he said that work-life balance is an interesting thing because movies and television shows can consume one's life. However, he is fortunate to have the ability to choose his roles and often prefers supporting roles because they allow him to still enjoy his work while not requiring long hours and time away from his family."
Fame is a fleeting condition.
It seems unlikely that Johnson's latest film, "Rebel Ridge," and upcoming series, "Doctor Odyssey," will happen anytime soon.
"I'm still on the menu!" he joked with People.
