Ian Somerhalder prefers the satisfaction of farming over the glamour of Hollywood.
Nikki Reed, the actress known for her role in 'The Vampire Diaries' and her husband, who starred in 'Twilight', relocated from Los Angeles over 4 years ago.
Ian Somerhalder, who was an actor, decided to become a farmer. He found that this new role required him to get his hands dirty, but he has found it to be rewarding. He has admitted that returning to basics has been more satisfying than his time in Hollywood.
Last week, he informed E! News that his family had some corn and he had beans. Five years ago, he and his wife, actress Nikki Reed, relocated their family from Los Angeles to a California farm.
"The feeling of nostalgia is what makes it so satisfying. It reminds me of the old days, and even though it may seem simple, it feels more elevated than trying to be fancy."
The "Vampire Diaries" star admitted that while farming has been rewarding, it hasn't been without a lot of failure.
"He explained that not all the things you try to plant may work, but some do. When kids are involved and the community is, you find yourself living in a sharing and bartering system with your neighbors."
Somerhalder stated that he and Reed intentionally involve their two children in their lifestyle to instill strong values related to community and nature.
"He stated that his parents imparted to him early on that nature has a balance, and that giving back as much or more than taking will result in a wealth of health, happiness, success, and other desired outcomes."
"We teach our kids and our friends teach their kids to respect the balance and appreciate it, which leads to harmony, abundance, and happiness. However, taking too much without giving back doesn't work."
In January, Somerhalder stated that he had no regrets about leaving Hollywood. "I loved what I did for a long time," he said. "I don’t miss any of it. I love making films, and I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run."
