After pleading not guilty to sex trafficking, Sean "Diddy" Combs' request for bail was denied by a judge.
Robyn F. Tarnofsky appeared in front of Diddy in a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday. Diddy was charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. If found guilty, he faces a minimum of 15 years behind bars or a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The judge concluded that there were no conditions she could impose on Diddy, as Tarnofsky argued that sex trafficking often occurs in private and the rapper would be difficult to monitor even with pre-trial monitoring services. Despite considering alternatives to detention, the judge ultimately found them inadequate. Tarnofsky acknowledged the substantial evidence against Diddy.
The rapper, without being handcuffed or shackled, entered the courtroom wearing a black T-shirt and khaki pants. He sat down next to his attorney and glanced around the courtroom, paying particular attention to the jury box.
According to a letter submitted by his legal team Tuesday and obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, Combs offered a $50,000,000 bond as part of a proposed bail package.
On April 1, Combs surrendered his passport to counsel, and his mother, Janice, and children Chance, Jessie, D'Lila, and Love Combs also surrendered their passports under the bail proposal.
The proposal stated that Mr. Combs' travel will be limited to the Southern District of Florida and the Southern District of New York for court appearances, counsel meetings, and medical appointments, which will be submitted to the court in a separate, sealed submission. Additionally, Mr. Combs' travel to and from New York will be restricted to airports in the Eastern District of New York or the District of New Jersey.
The defense argued for the equity of Mr. Combs' Star Island residence, valued at $48 million, and his mother's home in Miami, Florida.
Combs has attempted to sell his airplane since April 2024.
"The proposal stated that on May 21, 2024, counsel advised the AUSAs during a phone call that Mr. Combs had started selling his airplane. Several potential buyers showed interest in purchasing the plane, with a "Letter of Intent" signed just this weekend."
The airplane was not sold yet, so Defense agreed to keep it in Los Angeles while Combs resided in Florida. However, on the night of his arrest, the airplane was chartered from Los Angeles to Teterboro, NJ without Combs' knowledge or control over its movement.
The proposal stated that Mr. Combs agreed not to travel to New Jersey, where his airplane is located, until its sale is finalized.
On Sept. 5, Combs voluntarily relocated to New York in anticipation of his arrest. His legal team immediately informed the government of his whereabouts and offered to continually share Combs' location.
The media mogul, who had been disgraced, proposed home detention with GPS monitoring, as well as all other standard conditions of pretrial supervision.
The US District Attorney's office urged the judge to deny Diddy bail before his Tuesday arraignment, arguing that he posed a flight risk and could potentially hinder justice or intimidate witnesses. The government cited his past history of violence and abuse as evidence, stating that no bail conditions could adequately address these concerns.
"US Attorney Damian Williams made it clear during a press conference earlier Tuesday that this office is committed to investigating and prosecuting anyone involved in sex trafficking, regardless of their power, wealth, or fame."
He added, "This investigation is ongoing, and I encourage anyone with information about this case to come forward and do it quickly."

Disturbing allegations were laid out against Diddy in an explosive indictment unsealed Tuesday.
According to an unsealed indictment obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, Diddy ran a criminal enterprise through his businesses, including Bad Boy Entertainment, Combs Enterprises and Combs Global, among others. He used "firearms, threats of violence, coercion, and verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse" to fulfill his sexual desires.
Diddy and his employees would allegedly intimidate, threaten, and lure female victims into Diddy's orbit, often under the guise of a romantic relationship. Diddy would then use force, threats of force, and coercion to make victims engage in extended sex acts with male commercial sex workers that Diddy referred to as "Freak Offs." Following these "freak offs," Diddy would provide IV fluids to his victims to recover from physical exertion and drug use, according to the indictment.
In March, authorities confiscated "freak off supplies" and three AR-15s with altered serial numbers from Diddy's home, according to court documents. The feds also seized "thousands of bottles of personal lubricant and baby oil that Combs' staff allegedly used to prepare hotel rooms for the freak offs," Williams announced at a press conference.
