Shame on the Emmys for omitting 'The Shining' star Shelley Duvall from the in memoriam segment.
Some Emmys viewers were also perplexed about why 'Friends' actor Matthew Perry was not included in the segment.
Last night's in-memoriam montage at the Emmy Awards did not include a beloved actress, causing controversy among organizers.
On Sunday night, country singer Jelly Roll performed his hit song "I Am Not Okay" during the in-memoriam segment of the award show, which paid tribute to celebrities and industry professionals who passed away this year. Notable figures were recognized, but some fans noticed that actress Shelley Duvall was missing from the tribute.
"Shelley Duvall's exclusion from the In Memoriam is upsetting, as she was a pioneer in creating original cable content. Her content was delightfully creative," one X user wrote.
Shelley Duvall, an Emmy nominee, was not recognized in the Memoriam section. This is a shameful act.
Duvall, renowned for her part in the 1980 horror movie "The Shining," passed away in July 2024 at the age of 75 due to diabetes-related complications.
"Shelley Duvall's loss was the hardest for me to cope with in recent years, and the @TelevisionAcad did not include her in its memoriam. This is a shameful decision #Emmys."
Although Duvall is best known for her roles in films, she has also made numerous appearances as a guest star in television series. Additionally, she was nominated for two Emmys for the children's television shows she created, "Shelley Duvall's Tall Tales & Legends" and "Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories."
"Perhaps she wasn’t recognized as a TV actress but she was a successful producer for children's programs and a pioneer in cable TV. Her contributions should have been acknowledged."
I think she was more of a film actress than a TV one. She'll probably get into the Oscars in memory," and "She was more known for movies than TV. They can't fit everyone in the segment. It would last forever.
Despite appearing in the in-memoriam portion of the 75th Emmy Awards, some users online were perplexed as to why beloved "Friends" star Matthew Perry and posthumously nominated Treat Williams were not included in the montage.
Notably, a group of deceased performers, including Chita Rivera, Jonny Wactor, Tyler Christopher, Erica Ash, and Joe Flaherty, were excluded from the in-memoriam segment.
The Television Academy did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
