The NFL imposed a fine on Derek Carr for performing a Michael Jackson-themed dance during a touchdown celebration.
In his NFL career, Carr has faced disciplinary action twice, resulting in a $14,000 fine.
The NFL was not as celebratory as Derek Carr during the New Orleans Saints' blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys.
In the second quarter of the game, Carr scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run. To celebrate the Saints taking a 34-13 lead, he mimicked Michael Jackson's signature dance moves.
The league fined Carr $14,000 for a reported celebratory dance during the game, despite not being flagged during the game.
The NFL determined Carr's crotch-grabbing gesture was a violation of league rules.
In his 11th season in the NFL, Carr has faced league discipline for the second time.
In October 2020, Carr was penalized for not following COVID-19 mask guidelines at a charity event for a teammate.
Earlier this week, Carr opened up about the dance move.
"I'm not well-known to many people, but I love dancing at weddings and birthdays," Carr said to ESPN. "Once, I performed the Michael Jackson move and my brothers encouraged me to do it again if I scored."
In his second year as the Saints' quarterback, Carr has already established a strong start. He leads the NFL with five touchdown passes and has accumulated 443 passing yards after just two games. The Saints won their first game of the season against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1.
New Orleans has scored 91 points in two games to lead the league.
