Isiah Pacheco's return from surgery remains uncertain, according to Andy Reid.
Reid stated on Wednesday that they would simply determine if it is this season or the next.
Isiah Pacheco, the star running back of the Kansas City Chiefs, might be out of action for an extended period.
On Wednesday, head coach Andy Reid gave an update on third-year player Pacheco, who underwent surgery after breaking a fibula in the final minutes of the Chiefs' 26-25 win over the Bengals.
Reid stated that he has been placed on IR and will undergo surgery today, but he cannot provide a specific return time.
"We'll determine if it's this season or the next as we observe his performance."
According to the NFL Network, Reid's update follows reports that Pacheco did not have any ligament issues, and his recovery could take anywhere between six and eight weeks.
In their season-opening win over Baltimore, Pacheco, a member of the Chiefs' back-to-back Super Bowl championship teams, ran for 45 yards and a touchdown. He also had 90 yards rushing and a score before leaving Sunday's game.
On Sunday, he exited the stadium with a walking boot and crutches after rolling his ankle and getting injured on the first play of the final possession.
Undrafted rookies Carson Steele and Samaje Perine will replace him.
The Chiefs signed veteran running back Kareem Hunt to their practice squad on Tuesday. Reid stated that he is likely to miss this weekend's game against the Atlanta Falcons but could soon return.
""I want to see him working today, and then I'll be able to judge better," Reid said Wednesday."
