CJ Stroud, a Texan player, denies trying to belittle Caleb Williams during an awkward postgame interaction.
On Sunday, the Texans' 19-13 win over the Bears featured Stroud with a microphone.
On Wednesday, C.J. Stroud, the Houston Texans quarterback, addressed the viral clip of an uncomfortable encounter with Caleb Williams, the first overall pick, following their Week 2 game.
During the Texans' 19-13 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night, Stroud was mic'd up. One of the more interesting moments circulating on social media was the brief conversation Stroud had with Williams during their post-game handshake.
The second-year quarterback appeared to offer some words of encouragement to Williams.
"Great work, man! Remember to be careful and avoid taking unnecessary hits."
Stroud pulled Williams back into the conversation after he appeared to walk away.
"Learn from your mistakes, and you'll be a great player in this league."
Immediately after the post, social media users reacted, with some accusing Williams of appearing disinterested in what Stroud had to say. Others accused Stroud, prompting him to clarify his stance on Wednesday.
"Stroud clarified to reporters that he had no intention of belittling his younger brother during their conversation. He knew that his brother was aware of this, and he had a great deal of respect for him. Stroud also expressed gratitude to the many players who approached him after games last year to offer advice, which he found incredibly meaningful."
"He continued, "I simply aim to give back to the game what it gives me. I wish him all the best. I believe he will excel in this league.""
Despite not being flawless this season, the Texans have managed to maintain a 2-0 record, their first since 2016. The main concern regarding the offense for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings is the availability of Joe Mixon.
