The California Highway Patrol has released a video of former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías's arrest on suspicion of felony domestic violence outside BMO Stadium in the city following an LAFC soccer match.
The Los Angeles Times obtained footage months after Urías pleaded no contest to a domestic battery charge, which shows him rushing after his wife and pushing her up against a fence, corroborating the charges made against him.
Urias is seen pulling his wife's hair and shoulders while bystanders attempt to intervene.
Despite being arrested for suspicion of felony domestic violence, the District Attorney’s Office opted to charge Urías with misdemeanor domestic battery.
The charging documents stated that the victim's injuries and the defendant's criminal history did not warrant a felony charge.
In May, Urías was given 36 months of probation and 30 days of community labor after pleading no contest. His arrest took place in September 2023.
Urias was scheduled to complete a 52-week domestic violence counseling course, pay a domestic violence fund fee, abide by a protective order, not possess any weapons, not use any force or violence, and pay restitution to the victim.
After his arrest outside the MLS match, MLB indefinitely placed Urías on administrative leave.
In 2019, Urías was suspended 20 games due to being arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, but no charges were filed.
Urias spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He finished in third place in the NL Cy Young Award voting in 2022 with an NL-best 2.16 ERA. He was seventh the previous year, when he led the majors with 20 wins.
In 2023, Urias, a World Series winner with the franchise in 2020, had a 4.60 ERA over 21 starts for Los Angeles.
