VP pick Randi Weingarten's praise of Walz sparks warning from DeVos: '5-alarm fire' for families.

Betsy DeVos cautioned against Kamala Harris' running mate Tim Walz after the American Federation of Teachers union president Randi Weingarten praised his selection for the Democratic ticket.

On X Tuesday, DeVos wrote: "Randi gets this excited about anyone, so parents and students should be on high alert."

Trump's education secretary responded to a video on the ATF X account of Weingarten, expressing her excitement that Harris chose a "teacher and a union member" as her vice presidential candidate.

We are thrilled to see Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on the ticket for the future of America, as they have demonstrated their ability to get things done and care about working people. We have known them for years in various capacities, including as a social studies teacher, a vet, a union member, a congressman, and a governor.

"I'm excited, but I apologize," she said.

In a subsequent post, Weingarten, head of one of the country's largest teacher unions, praised Walz for increasing funding for public schools.

@Tim_Walz has been an exemplary Governor with a record of funding for public education, protecting reproductive rights, expanding collective bargaining, access to affordable childcare, and paid family and medical leave. @KamalaHarris made a great choice in congratulating him on X.

The former geography teacher was commended as an "excellent selection" by Becky Pringle, the president of the National Education Association (NEA).

"VP Kamala Harris has delivered for students and educators once again with her choice of running mate, Education Governor Tim Walz. Educators are excited and united in their support for the Harris-Walz ticket, knowing it's the only way to move America forward."

Currently serving his second term as Minnesota's governor, Walz is a former congressman and U.S. Army National Guard member who has also been a teacher and football coach. He grew up in Nebraska and was a union member at a high school in Minnesota before entering politics. In recent weeks, he has gained recognition as an effective advocate for Harris.

Walz's strong support for unions and accomplishments as governor, including codifying abortion rights, providing free school meals, and making Minnesota a refuge for transgender children, have earned him praise from progressives.

In 2023, he backed a budget to increase school funding in Minnesota and advocated for a free college tuition program for families with an annual income below $80,000, according to the source.

At the time, FOX 9 Minneapolis reported that he faced criticism for his management of COVID-19, including the implementation of indoor masking and the establishment of a hotline to report mask mandate violators.

Weingarten has faced criticism for supporting strict pandemic restrictions and her role in school lockdowns that negatively impacted public school children in the US. She has been accused of shifting responsibility for school closures to others, including DeVos, Republican lawmakers, and others. DeVos accused her of attempting to manipulate public opinion by trying to "gaslight" Americans.

The ATF President, known for her far-left political rhetoric, spoke at her union's convention last week about the dangers of former President Trump's potential return to power. She warned that Trump's election could lead to fascism and violence in America.

"The upcoming November elections will determine the course of our nation. While progress is achievable, the loss of our cherished rights and freedoms is also a possibility. Weingarten stated that fascism often gains entry through subtle means, with violence following later after they are elected."
