Trump supporter criticized by CNN reporter for complaining about the economy while owning a boat.
A Trump supporter told CNN's Elle Reeve that if they can afford a boat, they're not struggling financially.
On Wednesday, a CNN interview featured a clash between a CNN reporter and a supporter of former President Trump over whether the latter should have concerns about the economy.
During a MAGA boat parade in Panama City, Florida, CNN's Elle Reeve spoke with Trump supporters about their top priorities for the 2024 election. During the conversation, Reeve and Trump supporter Joe Harner had a heated debate about the economy, with Harner stating that everything was "too expensive."
She chimed in to lecture him for thinking this way.
"Can I ask a somewhat impolite question? If you can afford a boat, you're not doing too badly, right?" Reeve inquired. "Since a boat is quite expensive and requires a lot of maintenance."
""I earned everything I have because I did it right, and everyone has the chance to be successful, whether they choose or not," Harner responded."
"I would never attempt to remove anything from you in that manner," Reeve stated. "However, what I am inquiring is whether groceries are a smaller proportion of your budget compared to someone who is financially disadvantaged."
"It's surprising how people who feel more at ease are still so worried about the economy. Do you understand what I mean?" she asked.
"He stated that he wants inflation to decrease, interest rates to decrease, and for his money to go further. However, he emphasized that this would benefit everyone in the economy, not just himself, the poor, or the rich."
Harner assured Reeve that he wasn't concerned about his kids not being able to afford a house or a car.
He revealed that he properly trained and educated his kids, who are now successful in their careers and doing better than him.
Despite the decrease in inflation rate to 2.5% in August 2024, Americans' budgets remain strained due to the significant price increases that have occurred in recent years. In comparison to August 2020, when the country was grappling with the pandemic and before inflation increased, prices have increased by almost 21%, according to FOX Business calculations.
In the past four years, there has been a 22.8% increase in food prices.
This week, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by half a point, marking the first reduction in four years, to the man in the interview's delight.
