A Utah teenager is in critical condition after an accident involving "car surfing," which has sparked concerns about an online trend.

A car surfing accident has left a Utah teen critically injured, prompting a warning about the dangers of the popular social media trend.

Due to falling from the top of a moving car, Ava Broadhead, who is 15 years old, is currently in a medical-induced coma due to an "extreme brain injury," as reported by Fox 13.

Due to a severe accident, the teen will have to relearn how to walk, talk, and tie her shoes before attending homecoming.

"Ava's serious accident while attempting car surfing has left her in a hospital gown, with half her head shaved, fighting to recover."

Across the country, eyebrows are being raised as some people are accusing social media of encouraging dangerous behaviors in children.

"Unfortunately, social media trends fluctuate, and the current trend has been gaining popularity, as Sgt. Aymee Race of the Unified Police Department explained to Fox 13. "It's a trend that originated in the 80s and was popularized in movies, and now we're seeing a resurgence of it," she said."

Ben Ricciardi, CEO and founder of Times10, expressed concern over the internet trends as "alarming."

"Social media is fast-paced, with new trends emerging daily, some of which can be dangerous. One such trend was "I show speed" by jumping over a speeding car, which is often fake and can lead to catastrophic results when people attempt it."

Social media has created a culture where young people follow trends to gain attention, as explained by Ricciardi.

""The youth seeks to be the center of attention, which social media has facilitated. Being the first to embrace a trend and feeling like they are the first to do so may give young people a chance to gain fame or popularity among their peers," he stated."
