Trump's signature red tie is undeniably a phallic symbol, according to WaPo fashion writer.
The Washington Post fashion writer compared the 'ornamental piece of fabric' that Trump and Harris wore during the debate.
A Washington Post fashion writer argued that former President Trump's signature red tie is an "unmistakably phallic symbol" in a column comparing his debate attire to Kamala Harris'.
The article "The pussy bow vs. the big red tie" by Rachel Tashjian of the Washington Post examined the "ornamental piece of fabric" worn by Trump and Harris during the presidential debate on Tuesday.
Harris' choice of clothes was praised by Tashjian, who argued that Trump's long red tie, often worn, could be deemed offensive.
"The tie was as famous as the hat, but it was more like a phallic symbol than an aggressive smirk," she wrote.
Tashjian stated that Trump wears his tie longer to make himself appear thinner, but the expensive fabric is a constant reminder of his flashy and brash personality. While most male politicians still wear ties, they occasionally remove them to show that they are in touch with the common people. Perhaps your top button is undone, or you take your jacket off and roll up your sleeves.
"Trump rarely plays sartorial games, but when he does, he wears the tie."
In contrast to Tashjian's statement, Harris' blouse with a tie at the neck, commonly known as a "pussy-bow blouse," was a symbol of the "essential corporate attire for the 'dress for success' generation" in the 20th century.
She insisted that the necktie, although a powerful symbol, could be diminished by adorning it with a cute little bow, thus negating its power.
Tashjian's criticism of Trump's appearance went beyond his tie. She criticized his suit as a symbol of his allegiance to the cult of expensive European fashion, where details such as an unusual lining or finely stitched buttonholes are little reminders that he has disposable cash to spend on tiny tricks for his eyes only.
The Trump campaign responded to Planet Chronicle Digital by stating, "We now know what Democrats' focus is during this election cycle."
