Trump 'pleased' with Harris selecting 'moderate' Tim Walz as running mate: 'Surprising choice'
During a 2020 'Fox & Friends' interview, Trump discussed a phone call he received from Walz.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was chosen by Kamala Harris as her running mate, and former President Trump expressed his excitement about the selection, stating that he was "thrilled" by the choice.
Trump expressed his excitement during an interview with "Fox & Friends" co-hosts, stating that the man he picked is very liberal and a shocking choice.
Trump recounted one of his few interactions with Walz, describing how the latter sought his aid during the pandemic when his home was encircled by anti-lockdown demonstrators.
"He had only one guard, likely at his mansion or house, and he called me while I was in the White House. He asked me to spread the word that he was a good person, which I did. As a result, everyone lowered their flags and took them with them."
"They took the American and MAGA flags and left it, with thousands of people present," he said.
The former president cautioned that Walz is more liberal than Harris on significant topics such as immigration and crime, with concerns that the Harris-Walz duo could represent the most left-wing ticket in the country's history.
"If you examine his history without any barriers or protection, let everyone have access to it. He is even worse than they are," he stated. "Despite the fact that nobody knew how far left she was, he is a more intelligent version of her, if you want to know the truth."

On Tuesday, Harris revealed that Walz would be her vice presidential running mate, only hours before the two appeared together at a campaign rally in Philadelphia.
""As a governor, coach, teacher, and veteran, @Tim_Walz has consistently delivered for working families, and I am proud to announce him as my running mate," Harris declared on X."
Since Harris became the party's standard-bearer two weeks ago, it was not surprising that Walz's naming was immediately considered a possibility.
"Trump stated that the pick was surprising and disrespectful to Jewish people, and also to those seeking security. He added that it was an insult to anything related to making America great again."
