The White House has rejected inquiries about Kamala Harris' new "southern accent," labeling them as "insane."
During her Labor Day rally in Detroit, Harris's new accent drew criticism and went viral.
During a briefing on Tuesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre swiftly rejected a query regarding Kamala Harris' new "southern accent," asserting that the vice president had not undergone a dialect shift.
During her daily news briefing, Jean-Pierre fielded questions from reporters, including Peter Doocy of Planet Chronicle, who asked about Harris' new "accent" that gained popularity over the weekend and was compared to "Foghorn Leghorn" after her Labor Day rally in Detroit.
Doocy inquired, "When did the vice president acquire a southern accent?"
Jean-Pierre, visibly irritated, replied, "I have no clue what you're talking about."
Doocy pressed, "She had a southern drawl in Detroit and used the same line in Pittsburgh, indicating she had a consistent tone of voice."
"Do you believe Americans take this question seriously?" Jean-Pierre questioned. "What Americans truly care about are the economy, lowering costs, and healthcare. That's what they want to hear... democracy and freedom. I won't entertain this question, as it sounds ridiculous. The question itself is insane."
Did Doocy inquire about Harris using the alleged accent during White House meetings?
Jean-Pierre said, "We're moving on. We're so moving on."
On Monday, Harris spent her holiday in Detroit, aiming to bolster blue-collar union workers in a crucial swing state, where she reportedly revealed her new accent.
"Union members deserve gratitude for the five-day work week, sick leave, paid leave, and vacation time, Harris emphasized to the crowd."
Critics on the right swiftly posted a video of Harris' comment, panning her for her "Detroit accent" and accusing her of being "cringe-worthy and insincere."
"GOP strategist Matt Whitlock stated that Kamala Harris's politics is a performance, with her changing fake accents and policy positions like she changes political personas. Currently, she is speaking in a fake southern accent, pretending to be a moderate, but next week she will return to her San Francisco liberal persona."
Harris dropped her accent while giving the same stump speech in Pittsburgh, according to critics.
"Conservative commentator Greg Price stated, "Despite the same speech, the two rallies featured entirely different accents. He added, 'She's the fakest human being that has ever lived,' while sharing clips from each event.""
It has been frequently alleged that Harris changes her accent when speaking to different groups of people.
In July, Harris faced criticism for adopting a fake Southern accent while addressing a rally in Atlanta. During her 2021 trip to France, Harris was criticized for using a "French accent" while visiting a COVID lab.
