The Washington Post is investigating claims that Taylor Lorenz shared an Instagram post accusing Biden of being a "war criminal."
The high-profile columnist of The Post denied writing the Biden swipe, stating that the photo was manipulated.
A social media post by high-profile columnist Taylor Lorenz, in which he allegedly referred to President Biden as a "war criminal," is being investigated by The Washington Post.
A screenshot from New York Post's Jonathan Levine shows Lorenz taking a selfie at the White House Creator Economy Conference while Biden speaks to a group of online influencers behind her.
"War criminal," the image is captioned with a frowny face.
According to Planet Chronicle Digital, the post was reportedly made in an Instagram story using the "close friends" feature, which is indicated by the green star icon. This means that the post was not publicly shared and could only have been viewed by a select group of Instagram users chosen by the user.
Lorenz rejected the post's legitimacy, responding to Levine, "You folks will believe any nonsense someone fabricates."
Levine, however, expressed skepticism of her denial.
"She claims it's not true, but she has a history of lying about similar matters, and it was confirmed by a reliable source. You can interpret it as you see fit," Levine wrote on X.
Lorenz frequently shared videos from the White House conference on her Instagram story, despite claims that the post was supposed to be private.
Hours after posting the photo, Lorenz shared a video from the event but removed the "war criminal" caption for Biden.
A representative from The Washington Post informed Planet Chronicle Digital that they are investigating an alleged social media post.
On Blue Sky, a lesser-known social media platform, a user pondered whether the person responsible for the post, presumably Lorenz, was making a veiled reference to singer Lucy Dacus's criticism of former President Obama as a "war criminal" in 2020, accompanied by a frowning emoji.
Lorenz did not immediately respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
Biden has been frequently criticized by the far-left for his management of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, with many labeling him "Genocide Joe" due to his decision to continue providing military support to the Jewish state following the October 7th terrorist attack. Lorenz, a well-known far-left advocate, is a staunch critic of Israel.
Lorenz has a history of sparking controversy on social media and in her reporting tactics.
