The Trump and Harris campaigns have disagreed over the debate rules: "We maintained our stance"
Trump and Harris will face off in a debate on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC News in Philadelphia.
On Monday, the Trump and Harris campaigns engaged in a heated debate over the rules, with Trump alleging that Harris was playing "games" as her team pushed for live microphones during the event.
The Harris campaign was attempting to alter the debate format that had already been established, according to Jason Miller, a spokesperson for Trump, after Trump suggested on Truth Social that he might forgo the ABC debate on Sept. 10 in Philadelphia.
"Jason Miller, Trump spokesperson, stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that the games should end and that the ABC debate was accepted under the same terms as the CNN debate."
Instead of addressing whether Trump would participate in the September debate, Miller criticized the Harris campaign for avoiding a debate with the former president.
"The Harris campaign, after agreeing to CNN rules, requested a seated debate with notes and opening statements. We refused to make any changes to the agreed-upon rules. If Kamala Harris cannot remember the messaging points her handlers want her to memorize, that is their problem. This seems to be a pattern for the Harris campaign. They do not allow Harris to do interviews, press conferences, or use a cheat-sheet during debates. My guess is that they are looking for a way to avoid any debate with President Trump. Regardless, there is no way Harris is ready to be Commander in Chief."
After Trump criticized ABC News for its interview with Sen. Tom Cotton on Sunday, Miller made his remarks.
I watched ABC News this morning, where I saw Jonathan Carl's ridiculous and biased interview with Tom Cotton, as well as their so-called Panel of Trump Haters. I wonder why I would consider participating in a debate with Kamala Harris on that network.
On Saturday, ABC News' Jonathan Karl confronted Cotton about his criticism of Harris' support for Medicare-for-all, specifically her call to eliminate private health insurance during her 2019 presidential campaign.
"Will Donna Brazil give the questions to the Marxist Candidate like she did for Crooked Hillary Clinton? Will Kamala's best friend, who heads up ABC, do likewise? Where is Liddle' George Slopadopolus hanging out now? Will he be involved? They've got a lot of questions to answer!"
The Harris campaign also responded to the dispute over the debate rules.
Brian Fallon, senior advisor to the Harris campaign, stated that ABC and other networks should require Trump and Harris to keep their microphones on during the entire debate.
"We have informed ABC and other networks that we believe both candidates' microphones should be live during the full broadcast of the October debate. Our understanding is that Trump's handlers prefer the muted microphone because they believe their candidate cannot act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect that Trump's team has not informed their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit that they do not believe he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the use of a mute button. The Vice President is prepared to handle Trump's constant lies and interruptions in real time. Trump should stop hiding behind the mute button."
