The editorial board of the Wall Street Journal criticizes Vice President Kamala Harris for conducting her first interview with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, calling it an "insult to American voters."
In 40 days, Harris will give her first CNN interview.
The Wall Street Journal editorial board criticized Vice President Kamala Harris' approach during her first interview as the Democratic nominee, arguing that she relied on her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn, as a "crutch."
Since the start of her presidential campaign, Harris has scheduled her first interview with CNN's Dana Bash on Thursday night. However, instead of going solo, it was announced that the Democratic candidate would be joined by Walz, which has prompted criticism from the Journal.
The editorial board stated on Thursday that Kamala Harris's handlers are not shielding her from tough questions, as evidenced by her bringing along running mate Tim Walz in her first sit-down interview with the press this week.
Since President Biden endorsed her candidacy, Harris has been consistently criticized for avoiding tough interviews and unscripted press conferences. Wednesday marked 39 days since her last criticism, and her detractors added a new attack line by signing up for a tag team interview.
"The board declared that the one-on-two format for the Vice President's interview will limit her exposure risks and make it harder for Ms. Bash to probe into her contradictions with previous positions or obtain specifics on taxes or foreign policy."
Walz will assist Harris during the interview if she requires help.
The Journal criticized the debate format as another insult to American voters from the Harris campaign.
It then provided a list of ways in which Harris has avoided transparency.
"The Vice President received the nomination in an internal selection a month ago. She is the least recognized presidential candidate in recent history and has received the least amount of media scrutiny. Her stance on the critical issues she will face as President is unclear, and what we do know has been released in campaign press statements that we are expected to accept as her true views."
Since its announcement on Tuesday, conservative media figures have criticized Harris' joint interview.
According to Sean Davis, co-founder of The Federalist, Joe Biden requires a handler to get into a car or climb a flight of stairs, while Kamala Harris is unable to speak with a CNN reporter alone. This is embarrassing.
Never will there be a first interview with just Kamala, according to columnist Phil Kerpen.
The Wall Street Journal's editorial board stated: "Her strategy is to remain aloof at 40,000 feet until November, when we will discover her true intentions as President. Alternatively, it may be more precise to say what her advisors and the Obama aides currently running her campaign intend."
If the vice president's handlers respect the voters, they should allow her to stand alone and answer questions on her own.
The Harris campaign did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
